Qurbani (Sacrifice)

I have slaughtered a sheep for the occasion of Aid Adha.
I had done a niyyah of sacrificing on behalf of all our household.
Is it mandatory to give qurbani for our prophet pbuH?
What is the procedure of giving a sacrifice( qurbani) on behalf of dead relatives.
In a family, if 3-4 people of them are earning, can they combine there amount to buy 1/2 goats for combine qurbani. or they have to buy separate goats for each. And if they want to sacrifice a cow, how can it be shared. kindly reply it asap.
A relegious personality (Not Alem just a pious person) in our family circle told me that "I shall get my nails trimmed and hair cut before the 1 Zhil Hajj, if I am planning to sacrifice (Qurbani) as its not allowed to cut hair or rim nails from 1st Zhil Hajj till the sacrifice (on eid day)".
