Keeping three copies of Quran.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamualaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

We have 3-4 copies of quran; and we are opening only a single copy of quran for reciting.

My question is like is it ok to keep remaining copies of quran untouched? And since we are reciting quran from single copy, is it equal to reading and opening the remaining other 3 copies???

Answer:

Keeping three copies of Quran

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Al-Tirmidhi HadithHadith 2137         Narrated byAbdullah ibn Mas'ud

Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "If anyone recites a letter from Allah's Book he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a tenfold reward. I do not say that ‘Alif-Lam-Mim’ are one letter, but ‘Alif’ is a letter, ‘Laam’ is a letter, and Meem’ is a letter."

Respected sister in Islam, the reward for the recitation of the Glorious Quran is not determined through the number of copies one recites the Quran from, but rather what and how much of the Glorious Quran one recites.

In principle, there is absolutely no restriction or harm if one chooses to keep a number of copies of the Glorious Quran in their homes; nor is there any obligation or requirement that one must recite the Glorious Quran from all their copies.  The reward for the recitation of the Glorious Quran is determined by what and how much of the Glorious Book of  Allah is recited; thus if one recites the Glorious Quran from one copy or from a number of copies or even from one’s memory, the reward will be exactly the same.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 1771     Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘Get together, for I am going to recite one-third of the Qur'an before you.’ And those who could get together gathered there. Then the Messenger of Allah (saws) came out and recited the 112th Surah Al-Ikhlaas of the Quran and then entered (his house).  Some of us said to the others: ‘Perhaps there has been some news from the Heavens on account of which the Prophet (saws) has gone inside (the house).’  The Messenger of Allah (saws) again came out and said: ‘I told you that I was going to recite one-third of the Qur'an; keep in mind, (the rewad of reciting) this (Surah al-Ikhlas) is equivalent to (the reward of reciting) one-third of the Qur'an!’

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.534         Narrated by Abu Said Al Khudri

The Prophet (saws) said to his companions, "Is it difficult for any of you to recite one third of the Qur'an in one night?" This suggestion was difficult for them so they said, "Who among us has the power to do so, O Allah's Messenger (saws)?"  Allah Messenger (saws) replied:  "(The reward of reciting) Surah Al-Ikhaas (112th Surah) is equal to one third of the Qur'an."

Al-Muwatta Hadith  Hadith 15.17

Yahya related from Malik from Abd ar-Rahman ibn Abdullah ibn Sasaca from his father that Abu Said al-Khudri heard a man reciting Surat al-Ikhlaas (Sura 112), repeating it over and over again. In the morning he went to the Messenger of Allah (saws) and mentioned it to him. The Messenger of Allah (saws) said, "By The One in whose Hands is my life, it (the recitation of Surah Al-Ikhlaas) is equal to one third of the Qur'an!"

Respected sister in Islam, as meritorious as the recitation of the Glorious Quran is in the Sight of the Lord……the ‘real’ reward is in the unconditional acceptance and in the wholehearted obedience of the Wise Guidance of this Glorious Book of the Lord Most Majestic Most Supreme!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 185:

Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was sent down: this Book is a Perfect Guidance for mankind and consists of clear Teachings which show the Right Way, and are a Criterion of the Truth and falsehood.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 16 Surah Nahl verse 89:

We have sent down to you this Book, which makes everything plain,  and is a guidance,  blessing and good news to those who have surrendered themselves entirely.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 18 Surah Kahf verse 1-3:

All praise is for Allah Alone,  Who has sent down this Book to His slave-servant (Prophet Mohamed (saws)),  and assigned nothing crooked to it.   This Book says everything directly,  so that he may warn the people of the severe chastisement of Allah and give good news to the believers,  who do righteous deeds,  that they will have an excellent (and ever-lasting) reward.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah Bani Israel verses 9-10:

Indeed,  the Quran shows that way which is perfectly straight.  To those who believe in it and do good deeds,  it gives the good news that there is a great reward for them;   and to those who do not believe in the Hereafter,  it gives the warning that a painful torment has been made ready for them.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
