Can we say or call a non-muslim as Kafar.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamualikum,

Can we say or call a non-muslim as Kafar...
 `

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Who is a kaafir

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The literal meaning of the Arabic term ‘Kaafir’ is one who doubts, or denies, or rejects a statement after it has been presented and made clear to him; and when used in the Islamic terminology the term ‘kaafir’ means one who doubts, or denies, or rejects even one of the six articles of faith in Islam:

1. Belief in the Absolute Oneness of Allah Subhanah.

2. Belief in all the appointed Prophets of Allah Subhanah, culminating in the belief      that Prophet Mohamed (saws) is the Last and Final Messenger of Allah.

3. Belief in all the Revealed Scriptures of Allah Subhanah, culminating in the belief that the Glorious Quran is the Last Revelation of Allah Subhanah.

4. Belief in all the Angels of Allah Subhanah.

5. Belief in the concept of the Hereafter: Day of Judgment, Paradise, Hell Fire.

6. Belief in the ‘Qadr’ or Divine Decrees of Allah Subhanah.

Your Question: Can we say or call a non-muslim as Kafar...

If one declares oneself to be a non-muslim, he obviously disbelieves in one or more of the above absolutely fundamental articles of faith…..such a person would be a ‘kaafir’ in the Sight of Allah Subhanah, in the Sight of Shariah Law, and in the sight of the believers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 109 Surah Al-Kaafiroon verses 1-6:

1        Say: ‘O ye ‘kaafirs’ (those that reject Faith!)

2        I worship not that which ye worship (ie. your deities)

3        Nor will ye worship that which I worship (ie. Allah Subhanah Alone)

4        And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship (ie. your deities)

5        Nor will ye worship that which I worship (ie. Allah Subhanah Alone)

6        To you be your way and to me mine.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
