Oral sex

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

AOA,

My husband and I engage in oral sex, My question is if I give him oral sex, and his semen lands on my face or my mouth without him having touched my private parts or even if he did touch my private parts with his hand and not his private part, do i still need to take a shower/bath before having to say my prayers or can i just wash it off with water and perform wudu?

thank you.

Answer:

Oral sex

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

My husband and I engage in oral sex, My question is if I give him oral sex

Because oral sex is a new deviation of mankind, it finds specific mention neither in the Quran nor the Sunnah!

Dear and Beloved Sister in Islam, it is obvious that the act of ‘oral sex’, whereby one spouse derives pleasure by touching the private parts of the other with their mouth is obviously unnatural, unhealthy, unhygienic, unclean, impure and this act is not practiced in any of the lower animate creations.

But since the permissibility/impermissibility of this specific act of what is known today as ‘oral sex’ is not mentioned by name or act anywhere in the Quran and the Sunnah, the God-fearing and the pious amongst the scholars in Islam have abstained from declaring it ‘haraam’; the most they have said is that the act is from the ‘khabaaith’ (impure) and thus closer to the haraam than to the halaal, and the believers should fear Allah and abstain from it.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 3.267         Narrated by An Numan bin Bashir

The Prophet (saws) said "Both the halaal (lawful) and the haraam (unlawful) things are (made) obvious, and in between them are (suspicious) doubtful matters.  So whoever forsakes those doubtful things lest he may commit a sin, will definitely avoid what is clearly unlawful; and whoever indulges in these (suspicious) doubtful things bravely, is likely to commit what is clearly illegal.  Sins are Allah's Hima (i.e. private pasture) and whoever pastures (his sheep) near it, is likely to get in it at any moment."

Dear Beloved sister , to answer to your specific question, oral sex per se is strictly forbidden in Islam. It goes against the natural fitrah of mankind. All the scholars of Islam are unanimous in their comments regarding this evil practice and classified it as a grave sin. It is by the instigation of the shaytaan that some people perform this unclean and unhealthy act.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verse 157:

157    Those who follow the Messenger, the ‘Ummi’ (unlettered) Prophet (Mohammed (saws)) whom they find mentioned in their own (Scriptures); in the Law and the Gospel; for he (Prophet Mohamed (saws)) commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil: he allows them as lawful what is ‘tayyibaat’ (good and pure) and prohibits them from what is ‘Khabaayith’ (bad, evil and impure); He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that are upon them.  So it is those who believe in him, honor him, help him, and follow the Light which is sent down with him: it is they who will prosper."

Do i still need to take a shower/bath

The conditions that would make the wudu or ablution of a women invalid are:

  1. Answering the call of nature.
  2. Deep sleep
  3. Breaking wind or passing gas
  4. Voluntary or involuntary sexual discharge
  5. Sexual intercourse
  6. Menstruation or child birth

Regarding your question if in the act of oral sex the semen touches your face and/or mouth there is no need to do ghusl. Only the washing of the exposed body parts to the semen and then the normal wudhu will allow you to be available for prayers but perchance if you have been aroused by this act and if you had a sexual discharge then it would be purer to do a full ghusl.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 6:

6        O ye who believe!  When ye prepare for prayer wash your faces and your hands (and arms) to the elbows; rub your heads (with water); and (wash) your feet to the ankles.  If ye are in a state of ‘janaba’ (sexual impurity) bathe your whole body.  But if ye are ill or on a journey, or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in (sexual) contact with women, and ye find no water then take for yourselves clean sand or earth and rub therewith your faces and hands.  Allah doth not wish to place you in a difficulty but to make you clean and to complete His favor to you that ye may be grateful.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
