Answer:
Zakat what if calculated wrongly
In the name of Allah,
We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah
guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide
them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,
no grave, no prophet, no
imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness
that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
There is absolutely no
harm if one pays the zakat dues every year in one lumpsum value, or pays it by installments during the period
of that one year his zakat is due.
Most believers prefer to pay their zakat dues in the Holy Month of
Ramadan, as all good deeds are
multiplied manifold by Allah in this blessed month.
If one is unable to calculate
his net-worth exactly; and makes a
mistake in the calculation of his zakat,
but his intention is to pay the full zakat, Allah will be merciful to him;
because The All Knowing,
Merciful Lord knows and values the intention of the person doing the
deed. If one realizes his
mistake, he can pay the balance amount
due, whenever he realizes his error.
But if one intentionally tries
to reduce his assets to enable him to evade or reduce his payable zakat
dues, that would be considered a
heinous sin, and the person who does that will be held severely accountable in
the Court of Allah.
The Zakat dues are the minimum a
believer must pay to purify his wealth.
If Allah Subhanah has blessed one with bounty, he must strive to spend as much as he can in the Way of
Allah. Any amount which is above the
zakat dues, will be recorded as
‘sadaqa’ or voluntary charity in his Book of Deeds; and Allah Subhanah will reward him generously on the Day of
Resurrection.
Allah says in the
Glorious Quran, Chapter 2, Surah Baqarah, verse 261
The
charity of those who expend their wealth in the Way of Allah may be likened to
a grain of corn, which produces seven ears and each ear yields a hundred
grains. Likewise Allah develops manifold the charity of anyone He pleases, for
He is All-Embracing, All-Wise.
Allah says in the
Glorious Quran, Chapter 2, Surah Baqarah, verse 254:
Believers,
spend of the wealth We have bestowed upon you (in Allah's way), before the Day
comes when there shall be no buying and no selling; when neither friendship nor
intercession will be of any avail.
Whatever written of
Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever
of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows
Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
