Ghusl after burial washing
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
(May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
When you wash a dead body, does one have to put Tohara,
the washing of full body complete with hair before prayers? If we have to
perform full Ghusul, how can we pray our fardh prayers because we are being
given condolences at the place of washing till evening, and we can't go home
until evening in order to wash... Confused???
Jazak alalah..

Answer:
Ghusl after burial
washing
In the name of Allah,
We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah
guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide
them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah
Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the
seal of His Messengers.
Allah Says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 6:
6 O ye who believe! When ye prepare for prayer wash your faces, and
your hands (and arms) to the elbows, rub your heads (with water), and (wash)
your feet to the ankles. If ye are
in a state of ceremonial impurity bathe your whole body. But if ye are ill or on a journey or one of
you cometh from offices of nature or ye have been in contact with women
(sexual intercourse) and ye find no water then take for yourselves
clean sand or earth and rub therewith your faces and hands. Allah doth not wish to place you in a
difficulty but to make you clean and to complete His favor to you that ye may
be grateful.
Allah Says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 222:
222 They ask thee concerning women's courses. Say: ‘They are a hurt and a pollution; so
keep away from women in their courses and do not approach them until they are
clean. But when they have purified
themselves ye may approach them in any manner time or place ordained for you by
Allah. For Allah loves those who turn to
Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean.’
The acts which make a ‘ghusl’ or
a full bath obligatory for purification are:
The mere bathing of a dead body
does not invalidate or effect one’s state of purification in any way, and
neither of the four major schools of thought hold it obligatory or necessary
for one who has bathed a dead body to purify oneself with a ‘ghusl’.
If one is not in the state of
major sexual impurity (janaba), and one happens to bathe a dead body, there is
absolutely no need for one to perform the ‘ghusl’.
Whatever written of
Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever
of error is of me alone. Allah Alone
Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
