One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

aslam-o-alaikum  ...can a woman read  DROOD SHREEF and AYAT-E-KREEMA and names of almighty allah like  YAA HAYYOO  YAA QAUUMMOO.orpther mercy full names  without  WADDHU and uncoverd head n specially in the periods. please clear me brieflely.  JAZAK ALLAH HU KHAAIR

Answer:

 

Menses remember Allah

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

 

Firstly sister, the believing woman is obligated to adorn the ‘hijaab’ and cover her hair only when in the presence of non-mehram males and while offering her prayers.  She is under absolutely no obligation to adorn the ‘hijaab’ or cover her hair when she intends to remember or invoke her Lord, or recite the durood, or recite the Glorious Quran, or make supplications, etc.

 

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 24 Surah Noor verse 31:

31      And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except that which is displayed of itself; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers,…..

 

Secondly, being in the state of ‘wudu’ and purity is a pre-condition only when one wishes to offer one’s prayers, or perform the ‘tawaaf’ around the Holy Kaaba, and it is recommended and preferred that one be in the state of ‘wudu’ when one touches a copy of the Glorious Quran.

 

One is not required to be in the state of ‘wudu’ to remember or invoke their Lord, or recite the ‘durood’, or recite the Glorious Quran from memory, or make supplications unto their Lord Most Gracious, etc.

 

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 6:

6        O ye who believe! When ye prepare for prayer wash your faces and your hands (and arms) to the elbows; rub your heads (with water); and (wash) your feet to the ankles.

 

The only restrictions placed by Shariah upon the believing women who is experiencing her natural monthly menstruation are:

1. She cannot offer her prayers
2. She cannot observe fasts
3. She cannot enter a masjid
4. She cannot have sexual intercourse with her husband
5. It is recommended that she does not touch a copy of the Glorious Quran.

 

Other than the above listed five restrictions, the believing woman who is experiencing her natural menstruation is at absolute liberty to do what she normally does when in the state of purity……she is at liberty to remember and invoke her Lord Most Gracious, recite the ‘durood’, recite the Glorious Quran from memory, make supplications, etc. as often as she wills and pleases.

 

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 222:

222    They ask thee concerning women's (menstruation) courses.  Say: ‘They are a hurt and a pollution; so keep away from women (sexual intercourse) in their courses and do not approach them until they are clean.  But when they have purified themselves ye may approach them in any manner time or place ordained for you by Allah.  For Allah loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean
