Answer:

The fard sunnah acts of prayer

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Respected brother in Islam, the Messenger of Allah (saws) did not exactly list which acts or rites of prayer are ‘fard’, or ‘wajib’, or optional…..it is through the study of the Sunnah and the practice of the Messenger of Allah (saws), and in light of the weight the Prophet (saws) gave to each rite whereby the scholars and jurists in Islam have determined which amongst the main rites of prayer are obligatory and which amongst them are optional.

  1. Purity from major or ceremonial impurities (Pre-condition and thus ‘fard’)
  2. Wudu (Pre-condition and thus ‘fard’)
  3. Intention or Neeyah (Fard)
  4. Facing the Qibla (Fard)
  5. TAKBIR (Fard)
  6. Qiyam or Standing (Fard)
  7. Recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah in each rakah (Fard)
  8. Recitation of another Surah (or verses) after Al-Fatihah (Wajib)
  9. Ruku or bowing (Fard)
  10. Standing from Ruku (Wajib)
  11. Sajdah (Fard)
  12. The sitting between two sajdahs (Wajib)
  13. First sitting for small tashahud (Wajib)
  14. Second tashahud (Fard)
  15. Tasleem to signal the end of prayer (Fard)

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
