Jesus(a.s.) was not crucified.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalam Alaikum,

I am a Christian by birth but with a strong faith in Islam. I am not converted to Islam. I browse your site very often to know more about Islam and its principles. Could you please let me know in details about the birth, life and death of Jesus as per the Quran, as i have come to know that Jesus did not die on the cross (which the Christians believe it to be).

thank you very much.

Answer:

Jesus(a.s.) was not crucified

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: Could you please let me know in details about the birth, life and death of Jesus as per the Quran

Respected Sister in humanity, the Noble Prophet and Messenger of Allah, Jesus Christ son of Mary (a.s.) is honorably mentioned several times by the Lord Creator in His Last and Final Message of the Glorious Quran….and if truth be told, if we were to quote you all the verses regarding the birth, death and especially the life of the Noble Prophet Jesus (a.s.), it would indeed make lengthy reading!

What we can do for you here is quote you a few verses of the Quran regarding the subject where there is a stark difference in belief between the two major religions of Christianity and Islam.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 19 Surah Maryam verses 16-35:

16      Relate in the Book (the story of) Mary when she withdrew from her family to a place in the East.

17      She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them: then We sent to her Our Angel, and it appeared before her as a man in all respects.

18      She said: "I seek refuge from thee in (Allah) Most Gracious: (come not near) if thou dost fear Allah."

19      He (the Angel) said: "Nay! I am only a messenger from thy Lord (to announce) to thee the gift of a holy son."

20      She said: "How shall I have a son seeing that no man has touched me and I am not unchaste?"

21      He said: "So (it will be): thy Lord Saith `That is easy for Me: and (We wish) to appoint him as a Sign unto men and a Mercy from Us': it is a matter (so) Decreed."

22      So she conceived him (the babe Jesus (a.s.), and she retired with him to a remote place.

23      And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm-tree: she cried (in her anguish): "Ah! Would that I had died before this! Would that I had been a thing forgotten and out of sight!"

24      But (a voice) cried to her from beneath the (palm-free): "Grieve not! For thy Lord hath provided a rivulet beneath thee;

25      And shake towards thyself the trunk of the palm-tree: it will let fall fresh ripe dates upon thee.

26      So eat and drink and cool (thine) eye.  And if thou dost see any man say `I have vowed a fast to (Allah) Most Gracious and this day will I enter into no talk with any human being.'"

27      At length she brought the (babe Jesus (a.s.)) to her people carrying him (in her arms).  They said: "O Mary! Truly an amazing thing hast thou brought!

28      O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a man of evil, nor thy mother a woman unchaste!"

29      But she pointed to the babe (Jesus (a.s.)).  They said: "How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?"

30      He (the babe Jesus (a.s.)) said: "I am indeed a servant of Allah: He hath given me revelation and made me a Prophet;

31      And He hath made me blessed wheresoever I be, and hath enjoined on me prayer and charity as long as I live;

32      (He) hath made me kind to my mother and not overbearing or miserable;

33      So Peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the Day that I shall be raised up to life (again)"

34      Such (was) Jesus the son of Mary: (it is) a statement of Truth about which they (vainly) dispute.

35      It is not befitting to (the Majesty of) Allah that He should beget a son!  Glory be to Him! When He determines a matter, He only says to it: "Be"; and it is!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale-Imraan verses 45-48:

45      Behold!  The Angels said "O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus the son of Mary, held in honor in this world and the Hereafter; and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah.

46      He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity and he shall be (of the company) of the righteous."

47      She said: "O my Lord!  How shall I have a son when no man hath touched me?"  He said: "Even so: Allah createth what He willeth; when He hath Decreed a plan He but saith to it `Be' and it is!”

48      "And Allah will teach him the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel.”

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 19 Surah Maryam verses 88-93:

88      They say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten a son!"

89      Indeed ye have put forth a thing most monstrous!

90      As if the skies are ready to burst, the earth to split asunder, and the mountains to fall down in utter ruin.

91      That they should invoke a son for (Allah) Most Gracious!

92      For it is not consonant with the Majesty of (Allah) Most Gracious that He should beget a son.

93      Not one of the beings in the heavens and the earth but must come to (Allah) Most Gracious as a servant.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verses 171-172:

171     O people of the Book!  Commit no excesses in your religion: nor say of Allah aught but truth.  Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a Messenger of Allah and His Word which He bestowed on Mary, and a Spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His Messengers.  Say not "Trinity": desist!: it will be better for you: for Allah is One Allah: Glory be to Him!: (far Exalted is He) above having a son!  To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth.  And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

172     Christ disdaineth not to serve and worship Allah nor do the Angels those nearest (to Allah): those who disdain His worship and are arrogant He will gather them all together unto Himself to (answer).

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verses 115-116:

115     To Allah belong the East and the West; whithersoever ye turn there is the presence of Allah.  For Allah is All-Pervading All-Knowing.

116     They say: "Allah hath begotten a son"; Glory be to Him.  Nay!  To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth; everything renders worship to Him.

117     To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth; when He Decreeth a matter He saith to it: "Be"; and it is.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verses 72-73:

72      They do blaspheme who say: "Allah is Christ the son of Mary!”  But said Christ: "O children of Israel!  Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Whoever joins other gods with Allah, Allah will forbid him the garden and the Fire will be his abode.  There will for the wrong-doers be no one to help.

73      They do blaspheme who say: ‘Allah is one of three in a Trinity’: for there is no god except One Allah.  If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy) verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verses 17-18:

17      In blasphemy indeed are those that say that Allah is Christ the son of Mary.  Say: "Who then hath the least power against Allah if His Will were to destroy Christ the son of Mary, his mother, and all- everyone that is on the earth?  For to Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between.  He createth what He pleaseth.  For Allah hath power over all things."

18      (Both) the Jews and the Christians say: "We are sons of Allah and His beloved."  Say: "Why then doth He punish you for your sins?  Nay ye are but men of the men He hath created: He forgiveth whom He pleaseth and He punisheth whom He pleaseth: and to Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between: and unto Him is the final goal (of all)."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 9 Surah Taubah verse 30:

30      The Jews call Uzair a son of Allah and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah.  That is a saying from their mouths!; (in this) they but imitate what the disbelievers of old used to say.  Allah's curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imraan verses 59-60:

59      The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam: He created him (Adam) from dust then said to him: "Be" and he was!

60      The Truth (comes) from Allah Alone; so be not of those who doubt.

Your Question: …..i have come to know that Jesus did not die on the cross (which the Christians believe it to be).

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verses 157-158:

157    That they (the Jews) said (in boast) "We killed Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah"; but they killed him not nor crucified him but so it was made to appear to them; and those who differ therein are full of doubts with no (certain) knowledge but only conjecture to follow; for of a surety they killed him not.

158    Nay! Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.

The All-Knowing All-Aware Lord of the heavens and the earth Declares in Truth in His Glorious Quran that the Noble Prophet Jesus son of Mary (a.s.) was neither crucified, nor killed, nor did he die a natural death (yet); but rather the Lord Most Gracious Most Merciful raised the Noble Messenger of Allah Jesus (a.s.) unto Him and made it appear to his enemies that they had ‘killed’ him!

Although the Glorious Quran itself is silent on the issue of the ‘second coming of Christ Jesus (a.s.)’, the Last and Final Messenger of Allah, Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws) prophesized in truth that the Noble Prophet Jesus (a.s.) will come to earth again before the end of time, follow and implement the Law of the Quran, and will annihilate the evil liar and Anti-Christ, ‘Ad-Dajjal’, establish the Law of the Lord on the earth, will live for a period of 40 years on the earth, will marry on this earth, will die a natural death, and will be buried by the believers next to the grave of Prophet Mohamed (saws) in Madinah.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 4.658         Narrated by Abu Huraira

Allah's Messenger (saws) said "How will you be when the son of Maryam (i.e. Prophet Jesus (a.s.)) descends amongst you, and he will judge people by the Law of the Qur'an and not by the law of Gospel!”

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4310 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘There is no prophet between me and him, that is, Jesus (a.s.). He (Jesus (a.s.)) will descend (to the earth). When you see him, recognize him: a man of medium height, reddish fair, wearing two light yellow garments, looking as if drops were falling down from his head though it will not be wet. He will fight the people for the Cause of Islam. He will break the cross, kill swine, and abolish ‘jizyah’. Allah will perish all religions except Islam. He will destroy the Antichrist (Ad-Dajjal) and will live on the earth for forty years and then he will die. The Muslims will pray over him.’

Sahih Muslim Hadith 293      Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah

I heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) say: ‘Jesus (a.s.), the son of Maryam, would then descend and their (Muslims') commander would invite him to come and lead them in prayer, but he would say: ‘No, some amongst you are commanders over some (amongst you). This is the honor from Allah for this (Muslim) Ummah.’

Sahih Muslim Hadith 2877     Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

Hanzalah al-Aslami reported: ‘I heard Abu Hurayrah as narrating from Allah's Messenger (saws) who said: ‘By Him in Whose Hand is my life, Son of Mary (Jesus (a.s.)) would certainly pronounce ‘Talbiyah’ for Hajj or for Umrah or for both, in the valley of Rawha.’

Sahih Muslim Hadith 7023 (part)      Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr

…..He then reported that Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘The (Anti-Christ) Dajjal will appear in my Ummah and he will stay (in the world) for forty—(I cannot say whether he meant forty days, forty months or forty years.)  Allah will then send Jesus (a.s.), son of Mary, who will chase the Dajjal and kill him…….’

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 5772        Narrated by Abdullah ibn Salam

The description of Muhammad is written in the Torah, and also that Isa (a.s.), son of Mary, who will be buried alongside him (beside the grave of Prophet Mohamed (saws) in Madinah).

Respected sister in humanity, the above are only a few of the quotes found in the Glorious Quran and the authentic and established Sunnah of the Last and Final Messenger of Allah (saws)….if you do indeed require to study all the quotes regarding the mention of the Noble Prophet Jesus Christ son of Mary (a.s.) from the Quran, all you need to do is write back to us, and if Allah Wills, we shall send the whole list of quotations regarding the Noble Jesus (a.s.) to you.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
