this question:
Dear
Brother in Islam,
Assalam
alaikum. I have a small problem. I have a problem of bedwetting that is passing
urine in sleep. I have done lots of treatment for this but the problem didnt
get cured. I am a female and mother of two children. Sometimes after Sahari I
sleep and in my sleep I pass out. I want to know if I can continue with the
fast or break it? Will I be punished for this? Some say this problem is a
sickness so I can continue and I wont be punished. Secondly I have problem of
hyperacidity too, because of which I cannot continuously fast for several days
in a row. Whenever I tried to fast in a row I fell very sick and had to leave
my remaining fasts. What is the remedy to both these problem of mine? Please
let me know the solution to both my problems as soon as possible as Ramadan is
approaching. I hope my name will be kept a secret. Jazakallah khair.

Answer:
Bedwetting and
acidity fasts
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide,
and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear
witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His
Messengers.

Aishah (r.a.) related that the Messenger of
Allah (saws) said, "The pen is raised for three (meaning: there is no
obligation upon three): one who is sleeping until he wakens, the child until he
becomes an adult, and one who is insane until he becomes sane."
Respected sister in Islam, if one wets their beds in their
sleep for any reason whatsoever, it does not effect the validity of their fast
in the least and one should continue and fulfill their fast unto sunset.
The wetting of ones beds only effect their state of one’s
purity; thus when one wakes up and realizes they have wetted their beds, all
they need to do is wash their body parts where the urine might have touched or
take a full bath, and make themselves available for prayer.
Under all circumstances the wetting of one’s bed does not
effect the validity of one’s fasts in the least.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah
Baqarah verse 15:
185 Ramadan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an as a guide
to mankind also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (between right and
wrong). So everyone of you who is present
(at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if anyone
is ill or on a journey the prescribed period (should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you He
does not want to put you to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed
period and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be
grateful.
If one has a genuine medical issue whereby perpetual
fasting results in hyperacidity, one may fast as often as is easy for them and
make up the missed fasts at other times of the year. Allah Subhanah does not place a burden on
anyone more than they can bear, and if one has a genuine medical condition
which does not allow them to observe their worship of perpetual fasts, there is
absolutely no harm if they make up the missed days of fasting at other times of
the year, and there would be absolutely no sin nor blame upon them.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only
due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.
