Answer:
Criteria for doing
right
In the name of Allah, We praise
Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can
misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We
bear witness that there is no one (no idol,
no person, no grave, no
prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
The criteria to judge any deed
or act as good or evil in Islam is first and foremost the Divine Guidance of
the very words of our Lord and Creator;
the Al-Quran.
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 2, Surah Baqarah aayat 185:"Ramadan is the month in which
the Quran was sent down: this Book is a perfect guidance for mankind, and consists of CLEAR teachings which show
the Right Way, and are a Criterion
of the Truth and falsehood."
Then comes the Sunnah of the
Messenger of Allah (saws). And the
Sunnah is considered anything that the Messenger of Allah (saws)
commanded, said, did,
or any act or deed done in front of him which he (saws) did not
prohibit.
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzab verse 21:There is indeed the best example for
you to follow, in the Messenger of
Allah, for every such person who looks forward to Allah and the Last Day, and
remembers Allah much.
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imran verse 31-32:O Prophet, tell the people, “If you sincerely love
Allah, follow me. Then Allah will love you and forgive you
your sins, for He is All
Forgiving, All Merciful.” Also say to them, “Obey Allah and His
Messenger.” And if, in spite of this, they do not accept your invitation, warn them that Allah does not love those, who refuse to obey Him and His Messenger.
And after that, comes the Sunnah or Way of the Rightly
Guided Khalifas of Islam.
Sunan of Abu-Dawood
Hadith 4590 Narrated by Irbad ibn Sariyah
One day the
Messenger of Allah (saws) led us in prayer,
then faced us and gave us a lengthy exhortation at which the eyes shed
tears and the hearts were afraid. A
man said: “ O Messenger of Allah! It
seems as if it were a farewell exhortation,
so what injunction do you give us?”
He (saws) then said: “I enjoin you to fear Allah, and to hear and obey even if it be an
Abyssinian slave, for those of you who
live after me will see great disagreement.
You must then follow my Sunnah,
and Sunnah of the Rightly-Guided Khalifahs. Hold to it and stick
fast to it. Avoid novelties, for every
novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error.”
If any deed is not from the
above three criterias, then it cannot
be considered a virtue in Islam; but
rather it will be considered a ‘bidah’ or innovation. And as the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and
every innovation is an error.”
It has been
reported in an authentic narration that the Prophet of Allah (saws) said: “Whoever introduces a ‘bida’ (innovation) in
this deen brought by me (saws), it will
be rejected.”
It has been
reported by Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib (r.a.) that the Prophet of Allah (saws)
said: “If anyone introduces an innovation (in religion), he will be responsible for it. If anyone introduces an innovation or gives
shelter to a man who introduces an innovation (in religion), he is cursed by Allah, by His angels, and by all the people.”
Whatever written of Truth and
benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error
is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He
is the Only Source of Strength.

Islam,
Burhan
