Is it wrong to ask Allah to give me a better job.
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
(May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
I
have two questions.
I have hurted someone and did bad things about year ago (kissing etc but not
zina). I know I did haram things and also hurting someone unintentionally is
wrong. I know that Allah can forgive but if we hurt people. only people can
forgive us. I always ask for forgiveness from Allah and pray that the person
who I hurt/hurting unintentionally, be happy and not hurt coz of me. Please
tell me what should I do? As I always feel anxious and uneasiness because of
this. I am not bad person never hurted anyone never said any bad word to
anyone, dont' drink or any haram things. Please help me.
Second
question is:
Is it wrong to ask Allah to give me a better job so I can take care of myself
and my family (mum) and also can get settled (means marriage)? Because In a way
I am asking for money? as in better pay job? Please help me in these then I
have a major question that always on my mind and I need to clear. But that
would be next time.

Answer:
Dua for success
wealth
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide,
and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear
witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His
Messengers.

Whatever deeds one might have done, if one turns to Allah Subhanah in sincere
Taubah and seeks forgiveness, Allah
Subhanah has promised in the Holy Quran that He will forgive all the sins of
such a believer, even if one has
committed the gravest sin of all: ‘Shirk’!
The conditions or ways to seek sincere Taubah or
Repentance from the Merciful Lord are:
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah
Zumur verses 53-54:
(O Prophet) say: “O My servants who have wronged
their own souls….Do not despair of Allah’s Mercy! Surely,
Allah forgives all sins. He
indeed is the All Forgiving, All
Merciful. Return to your Lord and
submit to Him before the scourge overtakes you;
for then you may get no help from anywhere.”
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale
Imraan verse 135-136:
Allah likes such good people very much,
who, if ever they commit a base deed or
wrong their own soul by the commission of a sin, remember Allah instantly, and ask for forgiveness from Him for their
shortcomings. For who, but Allah,
can forgive sins? (And Allah
loves those) who do not knowingly persist in the wrongs they did. These will be rewarded with forgiveness from
Allah, and with Gardens beneath which canals
flow, and they will reside therein
forever! How excellent is the reward of
those who do good deeds!
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah
Anaam verse 54:
When those come to you who believe in Our
Signs, say: "Peace be on you! Your Lord had inscribed for Himself (the rule
of) Mercy. Verily if any of you did evil
in ignorance, and thereafter repented
and amended (his conduct), Lo! He is
Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2357 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud
Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "He who
repents of a sin is like him who has committed no sin."
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2338 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar
Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "Allah
accepts a servant's repentance (taubah) till he gives up his spirit in
death."
Dear and beloved brother, if one has abused someone, or
unjustly taken the right of someone, or oppressed someone….then indeed it is a
condition of ‘taubah’ that one seek the forgiveness of Allah Subhanah as well
as the forgiveness of the person whose rights one has unjustly usurped.
In your particular case, you transgressed the prescribed
boundaries of Allah Subhanah by indulging in an unlawful relationship with a
non-mehram woman….thus seeking sincere forgiveness for your transgression from
Allah Subhanah Alone would suffice.
Your
Question: Is it wrong to ask Allah to give me a better job so I can take care
of myself and my family (mum) and also can get settled (means marriage)?
Because In a way I am asking for
money? as in better pay job?
The Messenger of Allah (saws) guided the believers to, in
absolute awe, humility, fear and hope, call upon their Lord and make sincere
supplications for whatever lawful their hearts might desire….it is expected
that their Lord will respond to their lawful supplications.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 186:
And if My servants ask
you, O Prophet, concerning Me, tell them that I am quite near to them. I hear and answer the prayer of the
suppliant, when he calls on Me. So let them respond to My call and believe in
Me. (Convey this to them), perhaps they may be guided aright!
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2257 Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri
The Prophet (saws) said, "Any Muslim who
makes a supplication containing nothing which is sinful, or which involves
breaking ties of relationship, will be
given for it by Allah one of three things: He will give him swift answer, or
store it up for him in the next world, or turn away from him an equivalent
amount of evil." Those who heard it
said they would then make many supplications and he (saws) replied that Allah
was more ready to answer than they were to ask.
Abu Hurairah reported, "The Prophet
(saws) said, "Nothing is more dear to Allah than one's supplication to
Him.''
Narrated by Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah.
Salman reported that the Prophet (saws),
said, "Your Lord, the Blessed and the Exalted One, is Modest and Generous,
and He loathes to turn away His servant empty-handed when he raises his hands
to Him in supplication."
Narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Hibban.
Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (saws)
said, "Your supplication will be answered if you are not impatient, and if
you do not say, 'I supplicated but my supplication was not heard'."
Narrated by Malik.
When asking for wealth or anything of the world, one
should make sure they beseech their Lord to provide them with the ‘halaal’ and
bestow upon them the ‘tawfeeq’ and ability to spend of what He has provided
them in His Cause. One should also be
careful that one does not always and only ask for wealth or things that are
useful in this world….but balance their supplications for the good of the world
with imploring their Lord to also give them the good of the Hereafter….that
would be closer to piety and righteousness in the Sight of Allah Subhanah.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah
Israa verses 18-21:
18 If any do wish for the transitory things (of this life) We readily
grant them--such things as We Will to such persons as We Will: in the end have
We provided Hell for them: they will burn therein disgraced and rejected.
19 Those who do wish for the (things of) the Hereafter and strive
therefore with all due striving and have Faith, they are the ones whose
striving is acceptable (to Allah).
20 Of the bounties of thy Lord We bestow freely on all these as well as
those: the bounties of thy Lord are not closed (to anyone).
21 See how We have bestowed more on some than on others; but verily the
Hereafter is more in rank and gradation and more in excellence.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chatper 2 Surah
Baqarah verses 200-202:
200 There are men who say: "Our Lord! Give
us (Thy bounties) in this world!" but they will have no portion in the
hereafter.
201 And there are men who say: "Our
Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and defend us from
the torment on the fire!"
202 To
these will be allotted what they have earned and Allah is quick in account.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only
due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.
