In Islam great importance is given to dreams.
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
(May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
Asalaamalaikum,
Please
interpret the following dream to me.
Iam
Natisha from
Actually
the reason for me to write you this letter is to clarrify 2 of my doubts.
1) In
Islam great importance is given to dreams. 2months back i had a dream. I saw
that iam standing on the terrace of our 3 storied flat(even in reality we live
in the same flat) and looking towards the sky. Soon i see a beautiful moon
swimming out of a dark cloud. The moon was so bright that the whole sky was
covered by its light. Very soon i see any dark cloud carrying another moon of
the same type, same brightness and simultaneously a third cloud with a third
moon. All three moons filled the sky with its brightness.Something like what we
say 'Noor'.
Will you please intepret this dream to me. Let me tell you that in July 15th i
got engaged to one of my first cousin. He stays in
2) My
second question is that what importance does name play in
Islam. My name is Natisha. But as far as i know this name does not
have any meaning in arabic language. Will you please tell me is it ok to have
such a name or should i change my name now?
(There may be some grammatical and spelling
errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from
questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in
confidentiality.)
Answer:
Dream and name
change
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide,
and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear
witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His
Messengers.
Your
Question: Will you please intepret this dream to me
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.144 Narrated by Abu Huraira
Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "When the
Day of Resurrection approaches, the dreams of a true believer will hardly fail
to come true, and a dream of a believer is one of forty-six parts of Prophetism,
and whatever belongs to Prothetism can never be false." Muhammad bin Sirin
said, "It used to be said, 'There are three types of dreams:
So, if someone has a dream which he dislikes,
he should not tell it to others, but get up and offer a prayer.'"
In light of the above guidance, it is more than likely
that the dream you experienced was a reflection of your thoughts; or it might
have been a good dream from Allah Subhanah in the form of good tidings. Whenever one experiences such good dreams and
good tidings, one must be grateful to Allah Subhanah and redouble their efforts
in doing good righteous deeds to make oneself more deserving of the honor which
their Lord Most Merciful has Chosen to bestow upon them.
Your
Question: My second question is that what importance does name play in
Islam. My name is Natisha. But as far as i know this name does not
have any meaning in arabic language. Will you please tell me is it ok to have
such a name or should i change my name now?
A name assigned to each individual is no more than a sign
or recognition of that person; and there is absolutely no obligation or
compulsion in Shariah that a believer is obliged or required to keep a
‘traditional’ Islamic or ‘muslim’ name.
One is at complete liberty to assign any good wholesome name to their
off-spring in absolutely any language they will or please.
The only names which Islam prohibits from assigning to a
believer are names which connote or denote polytheism or disbelief (Abdul-Lat,
Abdul-Uzza, (slaves of the pagan gods like Lat and Uzza, etc.) or names like
Ramdas (slave of the Hindu god Ram), etc.; or names which have an inherit evil
or vile meaning.
Other than names which connote polytheism and disbelief,
or names which have an inherently evil meaning….Islam has allowed the believers
the complete freedom to chose and assign any good wholesome name in any
language they will and please.
Beloved Sister in Islam, we obviously have no knowledge of
the origin or the meaning of the name ‘Natisha’; but if the name itself does
not connote disbelief, nor does it have an inherent evil meaning, there is absolutely
no need for you to change your name if you do not wish to do so.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only
due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me
alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is
the Only Source of Strength.
Your brother and
well wisher in Islam,
Burhan
