week in Islam similar to Christianity as opposed to Friday. Can you confirm and
verifty why is Sunday considered the first day of the week and not Friday as
the common belief goes..............

Why Sunday first day
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide,
and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear
witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His
Messengers.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chatper 9 Surah
Taubah verse 36:
36 The number of months (in a year) in the Sight of Allah is twelve, so
ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth.
Since time immemorial, man has been guided by the Lord
Most High to count seven days to form a week and twelve months in the calendar
year. In the society that saw the birth
and the rise of the Last Messenger of Allah Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws), the
names assigned to the twelve months and the seven days were in general use by
the Arabs, and were left unchanged after the advent of Islam.
In the Arab society before the advent of Islam, the days
of Sunday-Thursday were known by their numbers starting from Day-1
(‘Yaum-al-ahad’: Sunday) to Day-5 (‘Yaum al-Khamees’: Thursday); but the days
of Friday and Saturday were not known by their numbers, but rather had specific
names…..Saturday was known as ‘Yaum-as-Sabt’ probably because it represented
the day of ‘Sabbath’ of the Jews, and the day of Friday was known as the day of
‘Jumuah’ or Assembly.
The Messenger of Allah (saws) nor the believers assigned
these names to the days, nor did Allah or His Messenger (saws) or the believers
found it necessary or appropriate to change the assigned names.
Abu Hurairah reports that the Messenger of
Allah (saws) said: "The best day on which the sun rises is Friday. Adam
was created on that day (Friday), he entered Paradise on that day, and on that
day he was expelled from
Related by Muslim, Abu Dawud, an-Nasa'i, and
at-Tirmidhi.
Sahih Muslim Hadith 1862 Narrated by AbuHurayrah and Hudhayfah
The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘It was
(the day off) Friday from which Allah diverted those who were before us. For
the Jews (the day set aside for prayer) was ‘Sabt’ (Saturday), and for the
Christians it was ‘ahad’ (Sunday). And Allah turned towards us and guided us to
Friday (as the day of prayer) for us. In fact, He (Allah) made Friday, Saturday
and Sunday (as days of prayer). In this order would they (Jews and Christians)
come after us on the Day of Resurrection. We are the last of (the Ummah) among the
people in this world, and the first amongst creation to be Judged on the Day of
Resurrection.’
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only
due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me
alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the
Only Source of Strength.
