Answer:

Upkeep of widow

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 34 Surah Nisaa verse 34:

34      Men are the protectors and maintainers of women because Allah has given the one more than the other, and because they (the men) support them from their means.

The complete financial responsibility and upkeep for the women in Islam is the obligatory duty of the men; the father is responsible for the complete upkeep of his daughters, the husband is responsible for the complete upkeep of his wife, and the sons of the woman are responsible for the upkeep of their mother.

If perchance there is a woman whose father and husband both are deceased and she has no sons, then the responsibility of her upkeep until her death lies upon her close relatives, upon the charity (zakah and sadaqa) of the believers at large, and finally upon the Islamic State.

If the parents and the husband of a believing woman are deceased, and she neither has any off-spring nor any close relatives to provide for her, she is obviously well within her rights at all times to exercise her option of marrying another husband who will shoulder the responsibility of providing for her upkeep.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
