Arti hindu ritual

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verse 86:

86      When a (courteous) greeting is offered you meet it with a greeting still more courteous, or (at least) of equal courtesy.  Allah takes careful account of all things.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.27 Narrated by Abdullah bin Amr

A person asked Allah's Messenger (saws) "What (sort of) deeds in or (what qualities of) Islam are good?"  He (saws) replied, "To feed (the poor), and greet those whom you know and those whom you don't know."

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 849         Narrated by Abu Yusuf Abdullah ibn Salam

Abdullah heard the Prophet (saws) say: ‘O people!  Spread the Salaams (greetings), feed (the poor and needy), behave kindly to your blood relations, offer prayer when others are asleep, and (thus) enter Paradise in peace.

Dear and beloved Sister in Islam, Allah and His Messenger (saws) have commanded and guided the believers to greet each other when they meet with the salutations of peace.  To the best of our knowledge we have not come across any narration in the authentic and established Sunnah whereby the Messenger of Allah (saws) endorsed or encouraged or declared any merit or reward whatsoever if one were welcomed or greeted on the day of Eid (or any other day for that matter!) with a plate mix of red/saffron water, charcoal, dried red chilly, leafs, etc.!!!

And when the Messenger of Allah (saws) has neither endorsed a rite/ritual, nor encouraged it, nor recommended it, nor declared its rewards or merits…..it should be obvious to the believers that this rite/ritual is a figment of someone’s imagination and has absolutely nothing to do with the guidance of Islam.

I might be completely wrong here, but it seems that this rite of welcoming a loved one with a plate mix of certain items, and churning the plate around their loved ones for a number of times is specific to the pagan Hindu culture!

If (Allah forbid) a believer were to invent a certain ritual which is not endorsed by Allah and His Messenger (saws) and believe it is meritorious, then at best it would constitute the evil of ‘bida’ or innovation in Islam.

Aisha narrated that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘If somebody innovates something which is not present in our religion, then that thing will be rejected.’

Related by Bukhari.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 1885     Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah

That the Prophet of Allah (saws) said in a sermon:  “The best speech is that which is embodied in the Book of Allah, the Al Quran;  and the best guidance is the guidance given by me, Mohamed (saws).   The most evil affairs are the innovations (bida), and every innovation (bida) is an error.”

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4515  Narrated by Ali ibn AbuTalib

That the Prophet of Allah (saws) said: “If anyone introduces an innovation (bida in religion),  he will be responsible for it.   If anyone introduces an innovation (bida) or gives shelter to a man who introduces an innovation (bida), he is cursed by Allah,  by His Angels,  and by all the people!”

But if (Allah forbid) a believer imitates or copies a rite/ritual of a pagan religion or culture, and assumes that such a rite/ritual would be acceptable to Allah Subhanah, or assumes that it is meritorious in any way…..then one would be counted amongst those whom he copies and imitates in the Sight of Allah Subhanah!

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4020  Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘He who copies any people is one of them!’

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws),   one can be assured of never ever being misled;   but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
