One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamualykum Brother

My Dearest and Noblest Mother Passed Away this 15th of Ramadan. While everyone has to go what keeps me worrying is what must be happening to her in her Grave?? Is anything special meted out to those Muslims who die in Ramadan. Kindly answer so as to let me live in peace.

JazakAllah

Answer:

Die in Ramadan

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale-Imraan verse 145:

145    Nor can a soul die except by Allah's leave; the term being fixed as by writing (as Decreed and Pre-Ordained by Allah).

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.315         Narrated by Anas bin Malik

The Prophet (saws) said, "At every womb Allah appoints an Angel who says, 'O Lord! A drop of semen, O Lord! A clot. O Lord! A little lump of flesh."  Then if Allah wishes (to complete) its creation, the Angel asks, “(O Lord!) Will it be a male or female?  how much will its provision be? what will be its (exact) age ? and whether it will be wretched or blessed? ' So all that is written while the child is still in the mother's womb."

Man has absolutely nothing to do with the determination of one’s time of death; the exact time and place where one will meet with one’s appointment of death is Decreed and Determined by Allah Subhanah, the Lord of the Worlds.  In light of the clear guidance of the Glorious Quran, how and when one dies has absolutely nothing to do with how one is treated in one’s life in the Hereafter!

Allah Subhanah has clearly, time and time again, Declared in His Glorious Quran that the things that will determine whether one deserves Allah’s Mercy and Forgiveness and thus Paradise, or one deserves His Wrath and Anger and thus Hell Fire, is entirely dependant on the two things which each individual chooses to do of his own ‘free will’:

  1. one’s belief
  2. one’s deeds

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verses 40-42:

40      To those who reject Our Signs and treat them with arrogance no opening will there be of the Gates of Heaven, nor will they enter the Garden until the camel can pass through the eye of the needle! (ie. impossible!!): such is Our reward for those in sin.

41      For them there is Hell as a couch (below), and folds and folds of covering (of the same) above: such is Our requital of those who do wrong.

42      But those who believe and do righteous good deeds, no burden do We place on any soul but that which it can bear, they will be companions of the Garden; therein to dwell (for ever).

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 47 Surah Muhammad verse 12:

12      Verily Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous good deeds to Gardens beneath which rivers flow; while those who reject Allah will enjoy (this world) and eat as cattle eat; and the Fire will be their abode (in the Hereafter).

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verse 57:

57      But those who believe and do righteous good deeds, We shall soon admit to Gardens with rivers flowing beneath, their eternal home: therein shall they have companions pure and holy: We shall admit them to shades, cool and ever deepening.

In light of the guidance of the Glorious Quran, it is an absolutely baseless, unfounded, and false belief that every person that dies in the Holy Month of Ramadan will not be held accountable for his deeds, or that all his sins will be forgiven, or that he will go directly to Paradise!  The time of one’s death has absolutely nothing to do with one’s entry into Paradise or Hell; in light of the clear guidance of the Glorious Quran the only two things that will determine whether one receives Allah’s Mercy or His Wrath; are one’s belief and one’s deeds.

Your Statement: Also request you to ask all the Memebers in this Noble Group to Pray for Magfirah for my Mother.

We supplicate our Lord Most Merciful for your mother in the very words through which the Messenger of Allah (saws) would supplicate the Lord for a deceased believer:

May Allah, the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy, forgive the deceased, bestow His Mercy upon her, give her peace and absolve her from all her shortcomings and all her sins. May Allah receive her with honor, and make her grave spacious; wash her with water and snow and hail; cleanse her from faults as one wouldst cleanse a white garment from impurity.  May the Lord Most Gracious requite her with an Abode more excellent than her abode of this short and transient world, and with a family better than her family she left behind. May The Lord Most Bounteous admit her to the Garden, and protect her from the torment of the grave and the torment of the Fire.  Ameen.

Beloved brother in Islam, may Allah Subhanah bestow His Mercy and His Peace upon you and the bereaved family of the deceased, and bestow upon you the patience to accept and submit wholeheartedly to the Decrees and ‘Qadr’ of the Lord Most Exalted, Most High.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
