the significance of eid

Answer:
Significance of eid
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah
Baqarah verse 128:
128 "Our Lord! Make of us Muslims bowing to Thy (Will), and of our
progeny a people Muslim bowing to Thy (Will), and show us our places for
the celebration of (due) rites; and turn unto us (in Mercy); for Thou
art the Oft-Returning, Most-Merciful.
The Prophet (saws) said to Hadrat Abu-Bakr
(r.a.): 'O Abu Bakr, every people have a festival and this (the Days of Eid) is
our festival.’

Anas reports: "When the Prophet came to
Medinah they (the people of Madinah) had two days of sport and amusement. The
Prophet (saws) said: "Allah, the Exalted, has exchanged these days for two
days better than them: the day of breaking the fast (Eid-ul-Fitr) and the day
of sacrifice (Eid-ul-Adha)."

Prophet (saws) said: "O gathering of Muslims, Allah has made this day (of

Every nation or people have their days of festival and
celebration, and the Lord Most Gracious has appointed the two occasions of Eid
(Fitr and Adha), and the day of Friday as the Days of Festival for the Ummah of
Prophet Mohamed (saws).
Other than the Friday of every week, Allah Subhanah has
bestowed and honored the believers with the two occasions of joy and
celebrations:
One should spend these two occasions of Eid with the
remembrance of their Lord Most Supreme by celebrating His Praise and being
grateful to Him for His innumerable bounties, and meeting and greeting and
celebrating with one’s brethren and loved ones.
The believers who abstain from
what is normally lawful and fasted the whole month of Ramadan only for their
Lord, strove their utmost in reciting the Glorious Quran, offered extra
‘nawafil’ prayers, and in abject and absolute humility, awe, hope and fear
implored and beseeched their Lord Most Gracious night and day to accept their
worship and forgive them their sins…..celebrate and commemorate the day after
the month of fasting with the Remembrance, Glorification, and Praise of their
Lord Most Gracious, Most Merciful in the ardent hope that their Lord would
accept their striving and their repentance.
The Messenger of Allah (saws)
exhorted the believers to abstain from fasting on the Days of Eid, and eat and
drink with gratitude and with joy from the lawful bounties which their Lord has
provided them. The Messenger of Allah (saws) urged the believers and made it
mandatory on everyone who believed in Allah and the Last Day to pay
‘zakat-ul-fitr’ before the Eid-prayers, and said that ‘relieve the poor of the
society on this joyous day from their poverty and help them’.
On the Day of Eid, the Prophet (saws) used to perform the
‘ghusl’, dress in new clothes, apply
perfume, lead the Eid prayers, give the
sermon, and then meet with the family
and the believers and they would congratulate each other on this joyous
occasion of Eid with the ardent hope that the Lord Most Gracious would accept
their striving that they did in the blessed month of Ramadan, and would accept
their sincere repentance.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.
