Is pride allowed

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 59 Surah Hashr verses 22-24:

22      Allah is He than whom there is no other god; Who knows (all things) both secret and open; He is The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

23      Allah is He than whom there is no other god; The Sovereign, The Holy One, The Source of Peace (and Perfection), The Guardian of Faith, The Preserver of Safety, The Exalted in Might, The Irresistible, The ‘Al-Mutakabbir’ (Absolute and Supreme Lord and Owner of Arrogance): Glory to Allah! (High is He) above the partners they attribute to Him.

24      He is Allah, The Creator, The Evolver, The Bestower of Forms (or colors).  To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names: Whatever is in the heavens and on earth doth declare His Praises and Glory: and He is The Exalted in Might, The Wise.

 

Dear and beloved brother in Islam, one amongst the Absolutely Exclusive Attributes and Names of the Lord Most Majestic is that He and He Alone is the ‘Al-Mutakabbir’ or the Absolute and Supreme Lord of all Arrogance and Pride; and Allah Subhanah is our witness, none in creation deserves, warrants or justifies arrogance and pride except Allah Subhanah wa Taala. 

 

The Lord Most Majestic Most Supreme Alone is and deserves to be the ‘Al-Mutakabbir’ (Arrogant, Proud); and He absolutely hates arrogance and pride for or amongst any in His creation!

 

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verse 36 (part):

Allah loves not the arrogant, the vainglorious!

 

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 31 Surah Luqman verse 18:

And swell not thy cheek (in pride) at men, nor walk in insolence through the earth; for Allah loveth not any arrogant boaster.

 

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 46 Surah Ahqaaf verse 20:

20      And on the Day that the Unbelievers will be placed before the Fire (it will be said to them): "Ye received your good things in the life of the world and ye took your pleasure out of them: but today shall ye be recompensed with a Penalty of humiliation: for that ye were arrogant on earth without just cause, and that ye (ever) transgressed."

 

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 40 Surah Mumin verses 75-76:

75      "That was because ye (the disbelievers) were wont to rejoice on the earth in things other than the Truth, and that ye were wont to be insolent.

76      Enter ye the gates of Hell to dwell therein: and evil is (Hell), abode of the arrogant!"

Hadith Qudsi 19

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said that Allah, Exalted and High is He, says: ‘Pride is my Cloak, and Greatness My Robe; and he who competes with Me in respect of either of them I shall cast into Hell-fire.’

 

Sahih Muslim Hadith 164      Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise.’ A person (amongst his hearers) said: ‘O Messenger of Allah (saws)! Verily a person loves that his dress should be fine, and his shoes should be fine.’ He (the Prophet (saws)) remarked: ‘Verily, Allah is Graceful and He loves Grace.  Pride is disdaining the truth (out of self-conceit) and contempt for the people.’

 

 

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 2653  Narrated by Jabir ibn Atik

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘There is jealousy which Allah loves and jealousy which Allah hates. That which Allah loves is jealousy regarding a matter of doubt, and that which Allah hates is jealousy regarding something which is not doubtful. There is pride which Allah hates and pride which Allah loves. That which Allah loves is a man's pride when fighting (in the Cause of Allah) and when giving sadaqah; and that which Allah hates is pride shown by oppression or by boasting."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 24 Surah Noor verse 22:

22      Let not those among you who are endued with grace and amplitude of means resolve by oath against helping their kinsmen those in want and those who have left their homes in Allah's Cause: let them forgive and overlook: do you not wish that Allah should forgive you? For Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.

 

If one does not forgive their repentant brother or sister for no other reason than pride, and one has no just reason or cause to do so; such a person will indeed have a severe accounting in the Presence of the Lord Most Majestic, Most Supreme on an Inevitable Day.
