Is there life on other Planets
Mu' meneen
Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa
Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be
upon all of you)
One of our
brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Hi, Hope this question is not out of context I wanted to know if there is some mention of this in the quran, science has not been able to answer it as there is no evidence of it as yet, but we know that the universe is almost endless and there are many theories on how it came into existance etc. but no one is able to explain why there is life on this one planet only , which is a speck of dust in comparison to the size of the universe. is there any mention in the quran, that suggests life anywhere else in the universe or we are the only lucky/unlucky ones around. And if that is true why such a huge waste of space. Regards

Answer:
Is there life on other planets?
In the name of Allah, We praise
Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness.
Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray,
none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,
no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone,
and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of
His Messengers.
Allah Subhanah mentions the creation and existence of the seven
heavens (one above the other) and the Earth several times in the Quran. Whatever
galaxies and heavenly bodies,
man, with the most modern
technological instruments has been able to identify, are still only a part of the first
heavens! Far Exalted and High is Allah
Subhanah, and Glory be to Him, to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens
and the earth!
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 42 Surah Shuraa verse 49:To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills (and plans).
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 42 Surah Shuraa verse 53:The Way of
Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in
the heavens and whatever is on earth:
Behold (how) all affairs tend towards Allah!
Your Statement: science has not been able to answer it as
there is no evidence of it as yet, but we know that the universe is almost
endless and there are many theories on how it came into existance
etc.
Those who believe in science as
their barometer of truth, are still
holding on to their scientists, with all
their expensive machinery and instruments,
with all their volumes of knowledge,
with all the billions of dollars spent on space exploration, etc. to find out how the
universe came into existence.
But those who believe in Mohamed
(saws) as the Messenger of the Lord of the Universe, know for sure how the Universe came
into existence! 1400+ years ago, this uneducated and
noble shepherd (saws) from the deserts of
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 21 Surah Anbiyaa verse 30: Do not the Unbelievers see that the
heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of Creation) before We clove them asunder?
We made from water every living thing.
Will they not then believe?
Today, 1400+ years after that uneducated and noble
shepherd (saws) of the deserts of Arabia declared that the heavens and the
earth were all joined together as one unit,
and then it was split asunder;
some poor highly acclaimed scientists,
with all their years of knowledge,
and universities, and
instruments, and volumes and volumes of
research, have come up with a theory
that indeed the universe was one mass,
before it exploded into countless heavenly bodies in what they term as
the ‘Big-Bang’ theory!
Thus the question asked by the
noble shepherd (saws) then,
is valid even today: “Will they not then believe?
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 57 Surah Hadid verses 1-6:All that is there
in the heavens and the earth has Glorified Allah, and He Alone is the All Mighty, All Wise.
To Him belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He Alone grants life and causes death and has
power over everything. He is the First
as well as the Last;
the Manifest as well as the Hidden; and He has knowledge of everything. It is He Who created the heavens and the
earth in six days and then ascended the Throne.
He knows whatever goes into the earth, and whatever comes out of it; and whatever comes down from heaven and
whatever goes up into it. He is with
you wherever you may be,
and sees whatever you do.
To Him belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and all matters are
referred to Him for Decision. It is He
Who causes the night to enter into the day, and the day to enter into the
night; and He knows the hidden-most
secrets of the hearts.
Your Question: but no one is able to explain why there is
life on this one planet only , which is a speck of
dust in comparison to the size of the universe. is
there any mention in the quran, that suggests life
anywhere else in the universe or we are the only lucky/unlucky ones around.
Allah Subhanah
declares in the Quran about the creation of Angels, the creation of Jinns, and the
creation of man. Only man and jinns have been given the power of reasoning, and a free will to
choose whatever path they wish to follow in the life of this world.
The Quran
and Sunnah are silent on the issue of there being
human life in any other part of the Universe except the earth; thus, the position of the believers should
be that because it is not mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, we can
neither confirm with certainty that there is life other than on earth; nor can we deny with certainty about life
other than on earth!
But what the believers can
confirm with certainty,
is that if there is life in any other part
of the Universe other than the earth;
then it has to be the likes of human beings….because Allah Subhanah has mentioned that clearly in the Quran.
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzaab verse 72-73:We (Allah)
offered this trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they all refused to bear it, and were afraid of it. But man undertook to
bear this trust. Indeed, he is unjust and
ignorant! The inevitable result of
bearing the burden of the trust is that Allah should punish the hypocrite men
and women, and
the mushrik (those who invoke others with Allah) men
and women, and accept the repentance of
the believing men and women. Allah is
indeed Forgiving and Merciful.
Allah offered the trust (of
belief, imaan,
faith, of freedom of choice, etc.) to the heavens and
the earth, but all except man refused to
bear this trust! Thus it is evident
that if there is life anywhere else, it has to be the likes of human
beings!
Your Question: And if that is
true why such a huge waste of space.
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 42 Surah Shuraa verse 49:To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills (and plans).
The Omnipotent Creator creates
whatever He Wills! Allah Alone knows
the secrets of the heavens and the earth, and why He created this Vast and seemingly
Endless Space! But one thing He made
known to the believers,
and that is: it does not behove His
Majesty to create all this is vain or without purpose! Everything the Perfect Creator creates and
does has a purpose,
and everything is based on His Perfect and Absolute Knowledge and
Wisdom. Some things He has made known
to us, and some
things He has not made known to us!
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 44 Surah Dukhaan verses 38-40:
38 We created not the heavens
the earth and all between them, merely in (idle) sport:
39 We created them not
, except for just ends: but most
of them do not understand.
40 Verily the Day of Sorting Out is the time
appointed for all of them
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 15 Surah Hijr verse 85: We created not the heavens the earth and all
between them but for just ends. And the
Hour is surely coming (when this will be manifest). So overlook (any human
faults) with gracious forgiveness.
Allah Subhanah
clearly declares in the above aayahs of the Glorious Quran that He did not create the heavens and the earth in
idle sport or play or amusement; but He created everything for a
reason. For the ones who dare to
challenge the Omnipotent and Supreme Creator ‘why’ He created all this
seemingly endless and ‘useless’ space;
Allah Subhanah declares to them that they will
surely receive their answer on the Day of Resurrection!
Whatever written of Truth and
benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error
is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He
is the Only Source of Strength.
