People say that going for umrah in ramadan is equal to hajj.
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa
Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
People
say that going for umrah in ramadan is equal to hajj. People say that staying
in the mosque after fajr and worshipping god there until dawn and then praying
a two Rakah prayer before leaving is also equal to hajj. So i mean isnt that
easier than going to Umrah in Ramadan because you are getting the same
reward?

Answer:
Umrah in ramadhan reward of Hajj
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is no one (no idol, no person, no
grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 3.86 Narrated by Ibn Abbas
When the Prophet returned after performing
his Hajj, he asked Um Sinan Al-Ansari, "What did forbid you to perform
Hajj?" She replied, "Father of so-and-so (i.e. her husband) had two
camels and he performed Hajj on one of them, and the second is used for the
irrigation of our land." The
Prophet (saws) said (to her), "Perform 'Umra in the month of Ramadan, as
it’s (reward) is equivalent to having performed Hajj with me!"
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 971 Narrated by Anas ibn Malik
Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘For the one
who observes the dawn prayer in congregation, then sits down to remember Allah
till the rising of the sun, and then observes two rak'ahs (after the sun has
risen), there is for him the reward of a Hajj and an Umrah.’
Your
Staement: People say that going for umrah in ramadan is equal to hajj. People
say that staying in the mosque after fajr and worshipping god there until dawn
and then praying a two Rakah prayer before leaving is also equal to hajj.
Dear and Beloved brother in Islam, there are things which
‘people’ say, and then there are things which the absolute best person who was
ever created in the annuls of mankind, Prophet Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws)
said!
And it was the Prophet (saws) who declared and said that
the reward of performing Umrah in the month of Ramadan is equivalent to the
reward of having performed Hajj with him (saws)!; and the reward for a believer
staying in a masjid after performing the obligatory ‘fajr’ prayer and
remembering Allah till the rising of the sun, and then observing the two rakah
prayer of ‘duha’ would earn him the reward of a Hajj and an Umrah!
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 53 Surah
Najm verses 1-5:
1 By the Star when it goes down
2 Your companion (Prophet Mohamed (saws))
is neither astray nor being misled
3 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own)
desire.
4 It is no less than inspiration sent down
to him:
5 He was taught by one mighty in Power
Allah is our witness brother, the Prophet Mohamed (saws)
spoke not of his own desire, but gave news of the unseen only what he (saws)
was informed by inspiration from His All-Knowing, All-Wise Lord; and Allah is
our witness brother, the Prophet Mohamed (saws) spoke nothing but the Absolute
Truth!
Your
Question: So i mean isnt that easier than going to Umrah in Ramadan because you
are getting the same reward?
Beloved brother, there are several authentic narrations
from the Prophet (saws) which narrate any such superb ‘easy’ opportunities to
earn huge rewards from the Lord Most Gracious, Most Bounteous.
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 558 Narrated by Abu Umamah
The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘If
anyone goes out from his house after performing ablution for saying the
prescribed obligatory prayer in congregation (in the mosque), his reward will
be like that of one who goes for hajj pilgrimage after wearing ihram (robe worn
by the hajj pilgrims). And he who goes out to say the mid-morning (duha)
prayer, and takes the trouble for this purpose, will take the reward like that
of a person who performs umrah. And a prayer followed by a prayer with no
worldly talk during the gap between them will be recorded in ‘Illiyyun’.
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 752 Narrated by Anas ibn Malik
Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘The prayer of
a person in his house is a single prayer; his prayer in the mosque of his tribe
has the reward of twenty-seven prayers; his prayer in the mosque of Aqsa (i.e.
Bayt al-Maqdas in Jerusalem) has a reward of five hundred prayers; his prayer
in my mosque (the Prophet's mosque in Medinah) has a reward of one thousand
prayers; and the prayer in the Sacred Mosque at Makkah has a reward of one
hundred thousand prayers.
Sahih Muslim Hadith 6517 Narrated by Sa'd ibn Abu Waqqas
Sa'd had been in the company of Allah's Messenger
(saws) and he said: ‘Is one amongst you powerless to get one thousand virtues
every day?’ Amongst those who had been
sitting there, one asked: ‘How one amongst us can get one thousand virtues
every day?’ He said: ‘Say “Subhan
Allah” (Glory be to Allah)" one
hundred times for (by reciting them) one thousand virtues are recorded (to your
credit) and one thousand vices are blotted out.’
Al-Muwatta Hadith 15.17
The Messenger of Allah (saws) said, "By
the One in whose Hand my self is (Allah Subhanah), the (reward of the ) one recitation of the Surah Al-Ikhlaas (113th
Surah of the Glorious Quran) it is equal to one third of the Qur'an!"
Beloved brother, when the Messenger of Allah (saws)
declares in Truth the rewards of these seemingly ‘easy’ deeds, the intention
and wisdom behind their declaration is to show and highlight how meritorious
and magnificent these deeds are in the Sight of Allah Subhanah, so that the
believers are encouraged to do these ‘easy’ deeds and earn their reward in the
Presence of their Magnanimous and Bounteous Lord!
Every person who believes knows that there are great
rewards in such acts of worship as performing the ‘Umrah’ and the ‘Hajj’, or
the prayer, or reciting the Glorious Quran, etc.; thus these huge sources of
rewards are used only as a comparison to other seemingly ‘easy’ deeds which one
might ignore or neglect thinking they are insignificant in the Sight of
Allah! How many amongst us can afford
to perform ‘Umrah’ every Ramadan, or how could we possibly earn the reward of
performing Hajj with the Holy Prophet (saws), or how many can take out the time
or make the effort like the dedicated brothers who constantly recite the full
Glorious Quran, etc.??? But the
majority of the believers can but unfortunately don’t make the effort and
perform all their obligatory prayers in the mosques, or stay in the mosques
after ‘fajr’ and remember their Lord for an hour or so until the sun rises, or
while sitting, standing, or lying down recite the four simple verses of Surah
Al-Ikhlaas!
Thus the true status and position and rewards of these
seemingly ‘easy’ and ‘insignificant’ deeds are explained, so that the believers
may be encouraged to perform them and earn such magnificent rewards from their
Lord Most Gracious.
It would not constitute guidance or wisdom or prudence to
take the mention of the comparable rewards of these deeds to do one of them and
leave the other, simply because they have the same reward; but rather, guidance
is to strive to do the ‘easy’ deeds as often as possible, and when the
opportunity arises and the Lord Invites us, visit His Sacred House for Umrah
and Hajj, or visit the three holy mosques and thus do both, the ‘easy’ and the
‘difficult’ and earn the Invaluable Pleasure and Good Will of our Lord Most
Supreme!
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.
Your brother and well wisher in
Islam,
Burhan
