First of all I want to ask you about the soul
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa
Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
AasalaamAleikum..!
Thank you so much for the elaborated answers of my querries..it really cleard
all my qualms…May Allah reward you...You guys really do a great job by helping
so many people..May Allah shower you all with His blessings….! Well.. I have a
few more querries again..I’m sure you’ll clarify all my confusions... ! First
of all I want to ask you about the soul …As in where what happens to the soul
once a person dies? Secondly, many a times, people keep The Holy Quran on a
person’s head before he/she travels, etc. for safety sake. Is that right? In
the sense, Should we do this? And thirdly, I saw a Muslim program on a Muslim
TV Channel and in that, people send their date of birth and palm prints to this
man, who then, tells them their future, or advises them, regarding their life.
I know, islam doesn’t approve of this. And finally, I want to ask you about
Stones that some people wear. I’ve seen people wearing rings with particular
stones, which according to them, help them some how, maybe health wise, or
financially. How far does it help… and is it ok..? Please enlighten me about
this.. I will be grateful.Thank you so much and God bless you.

Answer:
What happens to soul
after death
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is no one (no idol, no person, no
grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
May Allah Subhanah reward you with the best of this world
and the Hereafter for your kind comments of encouragement for our humble
efforts in the propagation of the Truth.
If our humble and modest efforts have helped even one brother or sister
get closer to Allah and His Deen of Truth, then we would consider ourselves
indeed fortunate to have been given this opportunity by the Lord Most Merciful
to serve in His Cause. We hope, beg, and
pray the Merciful Lord accepts our humble and weak efforts, forgives us our
shortcomings, and saves you, us, and all the believers from the torment of the
Hell Fire. Ameen.
Q-1: First of all I
want to ask you about the soul …As in where what happens to the soul once a
person dies?
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 23 Surah
Muminoon verses 99-101:
99 (In falsehood will the disbelievers be,) until when death comes to
one of them he says: "O my Lord! Send me back (to life)
100 In order that I may work righteousness in the things I
neglected." By no means! It is but
a word he says! Before them is
‘Barzakh’ (partition or barrier) till the Day they are raised up.
101 Then when the Trumpet is blown there will be no more relationships
between them that day, nor will one ask after another!
In light of the Quran and the established
teachings of the Messenger of Allah (saws),
when a person dies, his soul is returned
back unto their Creator, and stored in a place called ‘Al-Barzakh’ until the
Last Day when the Lord Most Majestic will give them life again. There can be absolutely no contact from the souls
who have reached the ‘barzakh’ to the ones who are alive in this world, and
vice versa!
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah
Anaam verses 61-62:
61 He (Allah) is the Irresistible (watching) from above over His
worshippers and He sets guardians (Angels) over you. At length when death approaches one of you,
Our Angels take his soul and they never fail in their duty.
62 Then they (the souls) are returned unto Allah their Protector, The
(Only) Reality: is not His the Command? And He is the swiftest in taking account.
At death, every soul is returned unto Allah Subhanah, and
deposited in the ‘barzakh’, and once the souls have reached their destination
in the ‘barzakh’, there is absolutely no way for them to leave that state, or
harm anyone from there, or benefit anyone from there in the least. The souls will remain in that state and place
of ‘barzakh’ until the Lord Most Supreme will give them life again on the Day
of Resurrection.
Q-2: Secondly, many
a times, people keep The Holy Quran on a person’s head before he/she travels,
etc. for safety sake. Is that right? In the sense, Should we do this?
Dear and Beloved Sister in Islam, the Lord Most Gracious
Revealed the Glorious Quran as a guidance to mankind…..not as an object to put
or keep on someone’s head for their safety before they travel!!!
Never ever did the Messenger of Allah (saws) put or keep
the Holy Quran over his head when he (saws) intended to travel….thus if any one
does so, they would be guilty of inventing or following a ‘bida’ or an
innovation in the pure and perfect deen of Islam…and every innovation in Islam
is a grave error and a heinous sin in the Sight of the Lord Most High.
Aisha narrated that
the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘If somebody innovates something which is
not present in our religion, then that thing will be rejected.’
Related by Bukhari.
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4515 Narrated by Ali ibn AbuTalib
That the Prophet of Allah (saws) said: “If
anyone introduces an innovation (in religion),
he will be responsible for it.
If anyone introduces an innovation or gives shelter to a man who
introduces an innovation (in religion),
he is cursed by Allah, by His
Angels, and by all the people.”
Sahih Muslim Hadith 1885 Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah
That the Prophet of Allah (saws) said in a
sermon: “The best speech is that which
is embodied in the Book of Allah, the Al Quran;
and the best guidance is the guidance given by me, Mohamed (saws). The most evil affairs are the
innovations, and every innovation is an
error.”
Whenever the Messenger of Allah (saws) intended to travel,
these are amongst the supplications he (saws) would make:
Ali ibn Rabi'ah narrates: "Ali ibn Abi
Taalib (r.a.) was brought a riding animal. When he put his foot in the stirrup, he said:
'In the name of Allah.' Then, when he
sat on it, he said: 'Praise be to Allah. Glory be to the One Who made this
(vehicle) subservient to us for we were not able to make [it subservient] and
it is to our Lord that we will return.' He
then praised Allah three times and extolled Allah’s Greatness three times and
then said: 'Glory be to You; there is no God but Thee. I have wronged my soul,
so forgive me. No one forgives sins, except You.' Ali (r.a.) said that this was the supplication
taught to him by the Messenger of Allah (saws).
Related by Ahmad, Ibn Hibban, and by al-Hakim.
Al-'Azdi reports that Ibn 'Umar taught him
that the Messenger of Allah (saws) would extol Allah's Greatness three times
while seating himself on his camel for a journey. Then he (saws) would say:
"Glory be to the One who made this (vehicle) subservient to us for we were
not able [to make it subservient]. It is to our Lord that we shall return. O
Allah, we ask of Thee, in this journey of ours, righteousness and piety and to
(be able to) perform such deeds that are pleasing to You. O Allah, make this
journey of ours easy for us and make its length short for us. O Allah,
companion on this journey and the One who looks after our family and property
in our absence. O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from the difficulty of traveling
and the unhappiness in what I see and in finding that something harmful has
happened when I return to my property and family."
When he (saws) would return from his journey
he (saws) would say: "Returning [are we] repentant, serving and praising
our Lord."
Related by Ahmad and Muslim.
Q-3: And thirdly, I
saw a Muslim program on a Muslim TV Channel and in that, people send their date
of birth and palm prints to this man, who then, tells them their future, or
advises them, regarding their life. I know, islam doesn’t approve of this.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 31 Surah
Luqman verse 34:
34 Verily the knowledge of the Hour is with
Allah (Alone). It is He (Alone) Who
sends down rain and He (Alone) Who knows what is in the wombs. Nor does anyone know what it is that he
will earn on the morrow: nor does anyone know in what land he is to
die. Verily with Allah is full knowledge
and He is acquainted (with all things)
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah
Anaam verse 73:
73 It is He Who created the heavens and the earth in true
(proportions): the day He Declares "Be" Behold! it is. His Word is the truth. His will be the dominion the day the trumpet
will be blown. He Alone Knows the
Unseen as well as that which is open.
For He is the Wise well acquainted (with all things).
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 9 Surah
Taubah verse 78:
78 Know they not that Allah doth know their secret (thoughts) and their
secret counsels and that Allah Alone Knows well all things unseen?
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.378 Narrated by Masruq
I said to 'Aisha, "O Mother! Did Prophet
Muhammad (saws) see his Lord?"
Aisha said, "What you have said makes my hair stand on end! Know
that if somebody tells you one of the following three things, he is a liar:
Dear and beloved sister in Islam, know with total and
absolute conviction and confidence that anyone in creation who claims to know
even an iota of a part of what will happen in the future or in the unseen is no
more than a manifest and confirmed liar!!!
Allah Subhanah Alone has the knowledge of the seen and the unseen, the
past, the present, and the future, and whatever He Wills to make known of the
future, He makes it known through His Revealed Scriptures and His appointed
Messengers amongst mankind.
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.232 Narrated by Aisha
Some people asked the Messenger of Allah
(saws) about the ‘kaahins’ (astrologers, fortune-tellers, etc.) The Prophet (saws) said to them, "They
are nothing (i.e., liars!)."
Anyone, and we reiterate, absolutely anyone in creation
who claims to know or read the future of anyone is an absolute, manifest and
confirmed liar and not a word of such a sooth-sayer or future-teller is to be
believed in the least!
Q-4: I want to ask
you about Stones that some people wear. I’ve seen
people wearing rings with particular stones, which according to them, help
them some how, maybe health wise, or financially. How far does it help… and is
it ok..?
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah
Yunus verses 106-107:
And do not call besides Allah, any being that can neither do you any good
nor any harm. For if you will do
so, you shall be one of the doers of
wrong. If Allah afflicts you with a
calamity, there is none to remove
it, but He Himself. Likewise,
if Allah wills to bestow a favor on you,
there is none to withhold Allah’s Bounty. He bestows His bounty on anyone of His
servants He wills. And He is The
Forgiving, The Merciful.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale
Imran verses160:
If Allah helps you, none can overcome you! And if Allah forsakes you, who is there, then, after Allah that can help
you? Therefore, the true believers should trust in Allah
Alone.
It should be the absolute and ardent belief of every
believer that all things, good and evil, happen in this universe with the
Precise Will and Permission of none save Allah Subhanah. If Allah Wills and Pleases to bestow a favor
on anyone, no combination of things or people or anything in creation has the
power to withhold that favor; and if the Lord Most High Wills to afflict
someone with a calamity as a trial, no combination of things or people or
anything in creation has the power to remove that calamity except Allah
Subhanah Alone! Thus trust and belief
should be entrusted to none save Allah Subhanah, the Supreme and Absolute Lord
of the Worlds Alone!
There is absolutely no harm if one wishes to adorn
themselves or the jewelry of their womenfolk with precious or semi-precious
stones. But if one were to assign a
particular thing or sphere to a stone (or anything else!) thinking that its
adornment would bring it any benefit or save it from any harm, then it would indeed
constitute a clear and manifest form of ‘shirk’ in the Sight of Allah Subhanah.
Sahih Muslim Hadith 133 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah
The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “Don't you know what your Lord said? Your Lord observed: ‘I (Allah)
have never endowed My bondsmen with a favor, but a section amongst them disbelieved
it, and said: ‘stars, it was due to the stars.’”
If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and
commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws),
one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any
other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be
assured of being led astray.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.
Your brother and
well wisher in Islam,
Burhan
