Repeating tasbih ruku 15 times
Mu' meneen
Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa
Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be
upon all of you)
One of our
brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Dear Brother,
Assalaamalaikum!
I read your recent mail on some prayers
called 'thum washeq' and
was impressed by your answer. I always have difficulty in trying to explain to
certain people why innovation in prayer is not accepted. It would seem that the
more you pray the closer you are to Allah,
and indeed so, if it is in the way shown to us by our beloved Prophet (SAW).
You have given a simple and valid reason, may Allah reward you for your
work, Amin.
I wanted to
ask you if the prayers in which we read Subhana rabbil adheem 15 times in each ruku & Subhana rabbil a'la 15 times in each sajda, are correct? I have forgotten the name of this
particular prayer which is said on Layl-a-til Qadar. Please confirm if this was indeed shown to us by
Prophet Muhammed (SAW). Is this the 'thum washeq' read by bohris? Please clarify.
Thank you,
A sister

Answer:
Tasbih in ruku
In the name of Allah, We praise
Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none
can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.
We bear witness that there is no one (no idol,
no person, no grave, no
prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone,
and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of
His Messengers.
To recite ‘Subhanah
Rabbe Al-Adheem’ and ‘Subhanah Rabbe Al-Aala’ in the rukooh and sajdah postures in the salaat is
proven from the Sunnah of the Prophet (saws), but he
(saws) did not specify the number of times these phrases are to be
recited. They may be repeated any odd number of times, 1 or 3 or 5 or 7 ,etc.
The specific prayer that you
have described seems to be the ‘Salaat-ut-Tasbeeh’. There seems to be a difference of opinion
amongst the scholars of Islam regarding this prayer. There is indeed a narration by Iqrimah who reported from Ibn Abbaas that the Messenger of Allah (saws) taught this
prayer, but the majority of the scholars of Islam have declared this narration
weak and unacceptable. All the four
schools of jurisprudence have not accepted this hadith
as ‘sahih’ (authentic), and have not included any
note of this prayer ‘Salaat ut-Tasbeeh’
in their teachings.
And Allah Alone Knows Best.
Whatever written of Truth and
benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error
is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He
is the Only Source of Strength.
Your Brother in Islam,
Burhan
