I do believe that jinn are a different species and that they are the "family" of shaytaan.(good and bad ones).I do not believe that we can touch them since they are spirit and they can therefore only have sexual relations with their own kind.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

as salaamu alaykum

Dearest brother

Jazakallah for the answer. I do believe that jinn are a different species and that they are the "family" of shaytaan.(good and bad ones).I do not believe that we can touch them since they are spirit and they can therefore only have sexual relations with their own kind.

I am a bit disappointed that your answer does not quote any ahadith in order for me to reply to those who believe that jinn could be visible to some or that their presense are felt by some.A  learned sheikh actually said that Jinn do not blink and that is how we can tell when we feel a strange presense.

Are you saying that people cannot become possessed by evil Jinn?Is the rituals that are used by muslim scholars to free people from such possession all mind games?

You always give beautiful anwers in the light of The Quraan and Hadith.Unfortunately, you have failed me in this case. Please try again .I cannot prove that people imagine things without concrete evidence to help them right.

May Allah reward you for the time and effort.

Answer:

Can Jinns Possess?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: I am a bit disappointed that your answer does not quote any ahadith in order for me to reply to those who believe that jinn could be visible to some or that their presense are felt by some.

Dear and Beloved Brother, in light of the above absolutely clear guidance of the Holy Quran, it is not possible for a human being to ‘see’ a Jinn!  And since a Jinn cannot be seen, nor touched, nor smelt, nor tasted, nor heard, etc., I am not entirely sure what it would mean to ‘feel’ their presence, especially when their creation and presence cannot be appreciated by either of our five given senses.

Jinn are without a doubt a creation of the Lord and in light of the guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah they live amongst us; but without an iota of a doubt, they have been bestowed with the property by the Lord to see us, but we as human beings absolutely cannot see them.

If any amongst the human race claims to have seen a Jinn, then we as believers must determine whether the person who claims to have seen a Jinn is more truthful than Declaration and Guidance of the All-Knowing All-Wise Lord!  And Allah is our witness, there can be none more Truthful than Allah Subhanah, the Lord of the Worlds!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah An-Nisa verse 122:

The promise of Allah is true, and who can be truer in his word than Allah?

Your Statement: A  learned sheikh actually said that Jinn do not blink and that is how we can tell when we feel a strange presense.

To check whether our Jinn brethren ‘blink’ their eyes or not would imply that a human being has to see them; and the Lord Most Majestic Himself has Declared that it is not possible for the human beings to see a Jinn!!!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraf verse 27:

27      O ye children of Adam! Let not the Shaytaan seduce you in the same manner as he got your parents (Adam and Hawwa) out of the Garden stripping them of their raiment to expose their shame: for he (Iblees) and his tribe (the Jinn) watch you from a position where ye cannot see them: We made the ‘shayateen’ friends (only) to those without faith.

Thus brother, it would only be prudent and wise to ask the brother learned ‘shaykh’ how would one know whether the Jinn has ‘blinked’ or not, when it is simply not possible for a human being to see a Jinn!!!

Your Statement: Are you saying that people cannot become possessed by evil Jinn?

The Jinns are a distinct creation of Allah who have their own test of life ordained for them by Allah Subhanah, and they too will have a full accounting of their deeds on the Day of Judgment like the humans.

The system or nature of this life created by the Lord Most High is that every person is responsible for the deeds he does with his own will.  If the ‘jinns’ had the power or could possess someone, then whatever that person does or says, he does not do or say with his own will but rather it would be the will of the Jinn!   If a jinn could posses a human being, he could murder someone, rape someone, steal something, etc. and make the human being he has possessed do many an evil deed….and the innocent person could be held guilty in a court of law and punished for something he did not will to do!!!!  The whole system of life and the test that the All-Knowing, All-Wise Lord has bestowed would be in total disarray…and no ones’ life or property would be safe on this earth!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 114 Surah An-Naas verses 4-6:

4        (Say: I seek refuge in Allah ) from the mischief of the whisperer (of evil) who withdraws (after his whisper)

5        (The same) who whispers into the hearts of mankind

6        Among Jinns, and among men.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 14 Surah Ibraheem verse 22:

22      And the Shaytaan (on the Day of Judgment) will say when the matter is decided: "It was Allah Who gave you a promise of Truth: I too promised, but I failed in my promise to you.  I had no authority over you except to call you, but ye listened to me: then reproach not me but reproach your own souls.  I cannot listen to your cries nor can ye listen to mine.  I reject your former act in associating me with Allah.  For wrongdoers there must be a Grievous Penalty."

In light of the above absolutely clear guidance of the Quran, the absolute maximum the Jinn has the power to do is to whisper some evil into the hearts of men, and inspire man to commit some evil!  They have absolutely no power to help or hurt any human being, and they absolutely do not possess the power to possess a human being.

Thus not only is the guidance of the Holy Quran against the very concept of a jinn possessing a human being, but even logically it is absolutely impossible for a jinn to possess a human being and make him do his will!

Your Question: Is the rituals that are used by muslim scholars to free people from such possession all mind games?

When the Guidance of the Glorious Quran is absolutely clear that Jinns cannot be seen by human beings and Jinns cannot posses a human being, then obviously the so-called rituals performed by people who claim to free people from the possession of Jinns has to be nothing but a falsehood!

There is absolutely nothing in the Glorious Quran, nor the authentic and established traditions of the Messenger of Allah (saws), nor in the practice of the noble companions of the Messenger of Allah (saws) that a ritual was prescribed or practiced to free a human being from the possession of a Jinn!!!

Beloved brother, the onus and responsibility of presenting the proof and evidence is always on the shoulders of one who claims that such and such a thing can happen, never on the people who deny its happening!  Instead of asking the believers of the Quran and the Sunnah to prove that a Jinn cannot be seen, or felt, or cannot possess a human being, etc.; how about posing the question to the people who claim that Jinns can be seen, or felt, or have the power to possess a human being to produce their evidence from the Quran and the Sunnah for their absurd claim?

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
