Answer:

The name erun

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 89 Surah Fajr verses 6-8:

6        Do you see not how your Lord dealt with the people of Ad?

7        Of the (city of) Erum, with lofty pillars

8        The like of which were not produced in (all) the land?

The term ‘Erum’ is neither an Arabic term, nor is it used as a term for Paradise or a part of Paradise.  The term ‘Erum’ is a proper noun and according to history, Aad was the son of Erum, who was the son of Aus, who was the son of Sam, who was the son of Prophet Nuh (a.s.).  It was commonplace in those days that a place or city was recognized by the name of its famous ancestor or personality, and according to the context of the Glorious Quran the people of Aad lived in a place which was recognized by the name of Aad’s father, Erum.

The name ‘Erum’ is not mentioned in any other context in the Glorious Quran, nor does it have any particular meaning in the Arabic language.  But it is quite possible that the name had a meaning in the language spoken at the times of Erum; and Allah Alone Knows Best.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
