Are the clothes worn on an impure body, impure? Does one has to wash all the clothes worn on an impure body irrespective of whether the clothes are free of impurity or not?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamualaikum w.r.w.b.

May Allah bless with more and more knowledge and give all of us taufeeq to understand and grasp this knowledge. I have three questions this time.

Q1.Are the clothes worn on an impure body, impure? Does one has to wash all the clothes worn on an impure body irrespective of whether the clothes are free of impurity or not?

Q2. Can u plz suggest me a supplication made by the prophet before planning for a child? I mean, just before going to have sex with the wife to conceive a child. And also before regular sex with wife.

Q3. This question is about dealings. I bought a book from a friend (second hand) for $40 which was worth about $80 in the current market for the new book. Now, after me using it, is it permissible for me to sell the same book for a cost more than what I bought it for? I mean, can I sell it for more than $40.?

Jazak Allah.

Answer:

Clothes on impure body

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Q-1: Are the clothes worn on an impure body, impure? Does one has to wash all the clothes worn on an impure body irrespective of whether the clothes are free of impurity or not?
Jabir ibn Sumrah reported that he heard a man ask the Prophet (saws): "May I pray in the same clothes that I had on during intercourse with my wife?"  He (saws) said, "Yes, but if you see some stains on it, you must wash it."

Related by Ahmad and Ibn Majah.

Reported Mu'awiyyah, "I asked Umm Habibah (the wife of the Prophet (saws)): 'Did the Prophet (saws) pray in the same clothes that he wore when he (saws) had intercourse?'  She said, 'Yes, if there were no stains on it."'

Related by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah.

Unless and until one is absolutely sure and convinced that some impurity has actually touched the clothes, the clothes itself will be considered absolutely pure of any impurities and can be worn to offer one’s prayers.

If one is absolutely certain that some impurity has touched the clothes, then one should wash the part of the clothes where the impurities might have touched, and make themselves available for prayer.

Pure clothes worn over an impure body do not make the clothes impure, provided the clothes have not touched or come in direct contact with the impurity itself.

Q-2: Can u plz suggest me a supplication made by the prophet before planning for a child? I mean, just before going to have sex with the wife to conceive a child. And also before regular sex with wife.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 4.493         Narrated by Ibn Abbas

The Prophet (saws) said, "If anyone of you, when having sexual relation with his wife, says: 'Bismillah.  Allah humma jannib nas-Shaytaan wa jannib nas-Shaytaana feema razaktana’ (In the name of Allah. O Allah! Protect us from the Shaytaan and prevent the Shaytaan from approaching our offspring you are going to give us,) and if he begets a child (as a result of that relation) Shaytaan will not (be able to) harm it."

Q-3: This question is about dealings. I bought a book from a friend (second hand) for $40 which was worth about $80 in the current market for the new book. Now, after me using it, is it permissible for me to sell the same book for a cost more than what I bought it for? I mean, can I sell it for more than $40.?

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verse 29:

29      O ye who believe!  Eat not up your property among yourselves in vanities: but let there be amongst you traffic and trade by mutual good-will: nor kill (or destroy) yourselves: for verily Allah hath been to you Most Merciful.

Provided your friend gifted or sold the book to you at a price mutually acceptable to both of you, there is absolutely no harm or restriction if you were further able to sell the book at a profit to someone else; the trade and transaction and the resulting profits will be considered absolutely lawful for you.

What Islamic Law absolutely prohibits is transactions which are done by deceit, dishonesty, fraud, involving ‘riba’, etc.; but if one buys a product at a price which is mutually acceptable to both parties and is able to sell that product at a higher price to another party, the trade and the resulting profit is absolutely lawful for the seller to consume.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,
