Aasalam-Alaiykum Brother

I was told by someone that saying Iniyamanto-Berabekum while switching light on is beneficial and a good deed, is this true? Also I was told that a frishta will come to your kabar (grave) and will show light and if the person says the above it will grant them a place in paradise, is this true?

And also are we suppose to say the first kalmah when turning the light off?

Phrases to say when turning light on and off

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

 

For everything regarding the news or results of one’s deeds that will take place in the ‘unseen’ (in the graves, on the Day of Judgment, in Paradise, in Hell Fire, etc.), those who sincerely believe in Allah and the Last Day can and should only depend on one of the two Divine Sources of guidance:

What Allah Subhanah has mentioned in His Glorious Quran, and,

What the Messenger of Allah (saws) did, said, and/or informed the believers about the ‘unseen’.

 

Other than the above two sources of Divine Guidance, none in creation has a right to declare the effects of one’s deeds that will take place in the ‘unseen’!  When Allah and His Messenger (saws) have not informed the believers regarding the effect or result of a particular deed that will take place in the ‘unseen’, how is it possible for one to know the results that will take place???  Did someone who died come back to life and inform the person??  Or did an Angel come to him and inform him?? Or did he receive a Revelation from the Lord?? 

 

If the person did not receive any direct communiqué from the Lord Most High, then it is obvious that the person who declares such information regarding the ‘unseen’ when Allah and His Messenger (saws) have not made it known to the believers, must have invented the information himself without any authority whatsoever!

 

When any news or information regarding the matters of the ‘unseen’ are not substantiated from the Quran and the Sunnah, then one should know with conviction that such unsubstantiated statements regarding the ‘unseen’ are the imagination, whims, fancies, conjectures and utter and absolute lies and falsehood that the ignorant have invented and attributed it to Allah and His Messenger (saws)! 

 

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 11 Surah Hud verse 18: Who does more wrong than those who invent a lie against Allah?  They will be turned back to the presence of their Lord and the witnesses will say "These are the ones who lied against their Lord! Behold! The Curse of Allah is on those who do wrong!

 

Sahih Muslim Hadith 7147     Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘He who intentionally attributed any falsehood to me, should in fact reserve his abode in the Hell-Fire!’

To the best of our knowledge there is absolutely nothing in the Quran or the established and authentic Sunnah which states or informs that saying the phrase ‘inni-amanto berabbekum (I believe in your Lord)’ while switching on the lights is a beneficial or good deed, or by saying this phrase an Angel will come to one’s grave and show him light, or the saying of this phrase will grant them a place in Paradise!

 

And when Allah and His Messenger (saws) have not endorsed the saying of this statement when switching the lights on, nor announced the results of the saying of this statement, it is absolutely obvious that it is the imagination, whim, conjecture and an utter and absolute lie which someone has invented and attributed it to Allah and His Messenger (saws)!

 

Your Question: And also are we suppose to say the first kalmah when turning the light off?

There is absolutely no evidence in the established and authentic Sunnah that the Messenger of Allah (saws) would recite the ‘shahaadah’ or ‘kalima’ when turning lights off (or on)!

 

One need not say anything when turning the lights on or off; and if one wishes to remember Allah and His favors, then the most one may say when doing anything which does not involve the haraam or the forbidden, is ‘Bismillah’ (In the name of Allah), as was the general practice of the Messenger of Allah (saws).

 

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws),   one can be assured of never ever being misled;   but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.  

 

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
