One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

as salaamu alaykum

Dearest brother

I am worried that your answer might be wrong since many cases were reported about the Jinn taking human form or even that of animals by more than one person. They are spirit- like creatures but can in rare cases take a form and become visible to humans, just like angels who are different spirit- like creatures.Angels appeared as humans to prophets Ebrahim and  Lut(peace be upon them.My information is obtained from learned scholars.Could you please do some more research and tell us what you think about the above information.

Jazakallah

Answer:

Jinn takes animal or human form

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

My dear and beloved brother, because the Angels of Allah are free from committing evil or sin, with the precise Permission and Will of their Lord, they are at times sent by Allah’s Command in the form of human beings to fulfill a specific mission ordained by their Lord as was the case of Angels sent to Prophet Ibraheem (a.s.), Prophet Lut (a.s.), Hadrat Maryam the mother of Prophet Isa (a.s.), and of course the coming at times of Hadrat Jibrael (a.s.) to the Last and Final Messenger, Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws).

The Jinns (and human beings) on the other hand have been bestowed with a ‘free will’ to choose between good and evil, obedience and disobedience; and neither of them, under any circumstances whatsoever, have been bestowed with the power or allowed to take the form of any being or thing other than themselves!

Just imagine the chaos, commotion, mischief, and ‘fitnah’ a Jinn (or human being) would cause in the test of life if they were allowed to take the form of someone else!  One could take the form of someone’s husband and have intercourse with someone’s wife!  Or one could take the form of someone innocent and steal or commit murder in their form, and the whole system of life, law and order would be in utter chaos and confusion on who was responsible for what!!!

Your Statement: I am worried that your answer might be wrong since many cases were reported about the Jinn taking human form or even that of animals by more than one person.

My dear and beloved brother, even if every person in the whole world bore witness that Jinns have the power to take the form of a human being, the true believers in the guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah would never ever bear witness to this absolute and utter falsehood!

My beloved brother, we assure you in light of the absolutely clear guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah, that each and every case reported by the ignorant whereby they claimed that a Jinn took the form of a human being is nothing but their imagination, assumption, and an absolute and utter heresay and falsehood!

The Jinns (like the human beings) just do not have the power to take a form of anyone or anything other than the form their Lord Creator created them in!!!

If one trusts,  obeys,  and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws),   one can be assured of never ever being misled;   but if one believes,  obeys and follows any other guidance,  other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws),  one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
