As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

i commited unthinkable sin i am trying my utmost to repent.i just need to know where i stand. i commited sin with a man, we did not have intercourse but i think my hymen was damaged as a bit of blood was found in my vagina, this was due to either his finger entering me or part of his penis.his finger went in no more that 2 inches and his penis no more than a centimetre (if at all) into my vagina.as we did not have full intercourse is there any chance i could still be a virgin islamically?i am truly sorry for this and we still have full intention of marrying but without a physical relationship.

any advice is greatly appreciated,

Answer:

Girl Repentance

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Dear and Beloved Sister in Islam, regardless of whatever one has done in ignorance in the past, if one turns to Allah Subhanah in sincere repentance before their appointment of death, and makes a solemn pledge with Him that they will henceforth amend their conduct; it is expected that the Lord Most Merciful will wipe out their sins completely from their Book of Records and will not hold them accountable for those deeds on that Inevitable Day of Judgment.  Such is the Sublime and Unending Mercy of our Lord Most Merciful on those fortunate believing slaves who avail the opportunity of seeking repentance for their past deeds.

Whatever deeds one might have done,  if one turns to Allah Subhanah in sincere Taubah and seeks forgiveness,  Allah Subhanah has promised in the Holy Quran that He will forgive all the sins of such a believer,  even if one has committed the gravest sin of all: ‘Shirk’!    Not only that,  our Lord is so Merciful and Generous,  that He not only will forgive the sins of the believer,  He will change his evil deeds done into good deeds!

The conditions or ways to seek sincere Taubah or Repentance from the Merciful Lord are:

One is aware that he has sinned,  and feels sorry and ashamed at his sin.

Makes a solemn covenant and promise with Allah that he will not repeat his sin again.

Turns to Allah and seeks forgiveness,  before he has met with his appointment of death.

Is a believer and does righteous good deeds thereafter.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah Zumur verses 53-54: (O Prophet) say: “O My servants who have wronged their own souls….Do not despair of Allah’s Mercy!  Surely,  Allah forgives all sins.   He indeed is the All Forgiving,  All Merciful.   Return to your Lord and submit to Him before the scourge overtakes you;  for then you may get no help from anywhere.”

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imraan verse 135-136: Allah likes such good people very much, who,  if ever they commit a base deed or wrong their own soul by the commission of a sin,  remember Allah instantly,  and ask for forgiveness from Him for their shortcomings.  For who,  but Allah,  can forgive sins?   (And Allah loves those) who do not knowingly persist in the wrongs they did.   These will be rewarded with forgiveness from Allah,  and with Gardens beneath which canals flow,  and they will reside therein forever!   How excellent is the reward of those who do good deeds!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 25 Surah Furqaan verses 63-71: The (true) servants of the Merciful are those who walk humbly on the earth.   When the ignorant people behave insolently towards them,  they say, “Peace to you”;  (And those) who pass their nights in prostrating themselves and standing before their Lord and pray, “O our Lord,  save us from the torment of Hell,  for its torment is killing!  It is an evil abode,  and an evil resting place”.  (And those) who,  when they spend are neither extravagant,  nor miserly,  but keep the golden mean between the two extremes.  (And those) who do not invoke any god but Allah Alone,  nor kill a soul unjustly,  which Allah has forbidden,  nor commit adultery… He who does this shall be punished for his sin,  and his torment shall be doubled on the Day of Resurrection,  and he shall abide in a state of ignominy;  EXCEPT THE ONE WHO MAY HAVE REPENTED (AFTER THOSE SINS),  AND HAVE BELIEVED AND DONE RIGHTEOUS DEEDS.   For then,  Allah will change his evil deeds into good deeds,  and He is very Forgiving and Merciful.   In fact,  one who repents and does righteous deeds,  returns to Allah as one rightly should!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 54: When those come to you who believe in Our Signs,  say: "Peace be on you!  Your Lord had inscribed for Himself (the rule of) Mercy.  Verily if any of you did evil in ignorance,  and thereafter repented and amended (his conduct),  Lo! He is Oft-Forgiving,  Most Merciful."

Hadith Qudsi 34

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said that Allah Subhanah, High and Exalted He is, says: ‘O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind.  O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you.  O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great at it.’

Your Statement: I commited unthinkable sin i am trying my utmost to repent.i just need to know where i stand.

Dear and Beloved Sister in Islam, this very state of acknowledgement of your past deeds and this very shame you feel in your heart for your transgression of His Prescribed boundaries is in truth your Taubah and repentance to your Lord Most Merciful.  It is the solemn promise of the Lord Merciful that He will forgive the sins of His believing and repenting slaves when they turn back to Him in sincere Taubah and repentance.

Dear and Beloved Sister in Islam, it is in the nature of mankind to err and commit sin; and there is none except the Prophets of Allah who are free of sin.  Thus my beloved sister, regardless of whatever you might have done in ignorance in your past, never ever despair of the Infinite Mercy of your Lord Most Merciful; for He has promised complete and utter forgiveness towards those fortunate believing slaves who turn to Him in sincere Taubah and repentance.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘All of the children of Adam are sinners; and the best (or most loved) sinners in the sight of Allah are those who turn to Him in sincere repentance.’

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2339        Narrated by Abu Sa'id

Allah's Messenger (saws) said that the Shaytaan said, "By Thy Might, my Lord, I shall continue to lead Thy servants astray as long as their spirits are in their bodies."  The Lord, Who is Great and Glorious, replied, "By My Might, Glory and Exalted Station, I shall continue to pardon them as long as they ask My forgiveness."

Sahih Muslim Hadith 6622     Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘By Him in Whose Hand is my life, if you were not to commit sin, Allah would sweep you out of existence and He would replace (you by) those people who would commit sin and seek forgiveness from Allah, so that He may pardon them.’

May Allah Subhanah accept your and our repentance, forgive us all our innumerable sins we committed in our ignorance, and admit you, us, and all the believers in His Infinite Mercy and Grace.

Your Question: is there any chance i could still be a virgin islamically?

In light of the guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah, the letter and the spirit of the Shariah law states that when the two private parts meet, even for a millimeter or a millisecond, it will be considered as having performed intercourse.  As grave as the sin of ‘zina’ or illegal sexual intercourse is in the sight of Allah Subhanah, it is His solemn Word and Promise that He forgives whatever one might have done in one’s past, provided they seek sincere repentance from Him before their appointment of death and subsequently amend their conduct.  Thus never ever despair of the Mercy of your Lord Most Merciful, for none can forgive our sins except Him Alone.

Make it a habit to recite this beautiful supplication of the Messenger of Allah (saws) as often as you can; it is expected you will find your Lord Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Hadrat Abu Hurayrah (r.a.) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) say: “O Allah, make a distance between me and my sins similar to the distance you have made between the East and the West. O Allah, cleanse me of my sins in the manner that a white garment (is cleansed) from dirt.  O Allah, wash my sins from me with snow, water, and hail."'
