Whose translations do we use?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Brother Burhan & Team, Assalaam alaikum, Thank you for your continued efforts in providing answers to a variety of questions. Brother Burhan, when you answer any question that is posed to you, your team always refers to a translation of the Quran. This certainly validates your answers and gives it a firm confirmation that your answers are based only on the Quran & Sunnah. Can you please tell me whose Quranic translations your team uses? This will help me further understand your sources. I thank you for your continued guidance. May Allah guide us all to His Path. Amin.

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Whose translations of Quran should be read?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol,  no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: Can you please tell me whose Quranic translations your team uses?

We have access to several good translations of the Glorious Quran in the English language,  but we normally quote from one of these two works:

  1. The Holy Quran by Brother Abdulla Yusuf Ali,
  2. The Meaning of the Quran by Syed Abul Aala Maududi.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
