Letters from the Prophet
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's
Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Greetings,
I am Tahir from
"Peace be upon the one who follows the
right path! I call you to Islam. Accept my call, and you shall be unharmed. I
am God`s Messenger to mankind, and the word shall be carried out upon the
miscreants. If, therefore, you recognize Islam, I shall bestow power upon you.
But if you refuse to accept Islam, your power shall vanish, my horses shall
camp on the expanse of your territory and my prophecy shall prevail in your
kingdom."
I don`t know this letter is true or not.

Answer:
Letters from the Prophet
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there
is no one (no idol, no person, no grave,
no prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The contents of the letter quoted is an authentic
translation of the letter sent by Prophet Mohamed (saws) to the rulers of Oman
at the time, who were named Jeefer and Abd, the sons of Jalandi.
After the Prophet (saws) signed the Treaty of Hudaibiya
with the pagans of Makkah, he (saws) sent several emissaries to the various
rulers of the region and invited them to Islam. The letter you have quoted to
the rulers of
Our Christian brethren present these letters as proof to
strengthen their propaganda that ‘Islam was spread by the sword’, whereas that
is not the truth at all. One must keep
in mind that the rulers at the time were de-facto dictators, and the nations at
the time were divided by religious rather than secular beliefs, where the
subjects had the freedom to practice their own religions or beliefs. Thus the contents of these letters was sent to
invite the rulers to Islam; if they accepted Islam, the Messenger of Allah
(saws) guaranteed them that they would continue to rule over their
nations. But if they rejected the
invitation to Islam, the rulers would be overthrown by force if need be, and
the subjects would be given the freedom to choose whatever belief they wished
to follow. If they wished to accept
Islam, that was fine; and if they wished to follow their own beliefs, their
choice of religion would be respected. It was
normal and accepted at the time that the leaders of the nation decide
what would be the religion of the nation, its form of governance, and its way
of life.
Even today in what we call a secular world, we see that
the Super Powers of the World try to enforce their views on all the nations of
the world. Those nations who follow or
accept their form of governance are secure, but those who do not wish to follow
their bidding, they try to overthrow by force, if need be, the leadership of
those nations and enforce their form of governance in those nations; example, Vietnam,
Russia, Cuba, North Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.; but the same people who
propagate ferociously and with venom that ‘Islam was spread by the sword’ are in
no hurry to admit that today their ‘peaceful’ system of ‘Democracy is being
spread by the Bombs!
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.
Your Brother in Islam,
Burhan
