Save money for house

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Is it wrong to save money to buy a house for oneself. I am saving some money to buy a house for my mom throught our life we have lived in a house for my uncle and and its my moms dream to own a house. I give the zakat properly on whatever money i am saving and also try to give more as sadaka but i am just worried and i want to know if what i am doing is right or should i stop saving money and give all of it to poor or some good cause.

Answer:

Save money for house

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Dear and Beloved Brother in Islam, there is absolutely no harm and no sin in Islam if one wishes to save money to buy a house or spend it on any of his or his family’s legitimate needs; provided one pays the obligatory ‘zakah’ that Allah Subhanah has Decreed for the believers.

If Allah Subhanah has bestowed on one abundant wealth in excess of one’s legitimate needs, and one gives a part or all of it in voluntary ‘sadaqah’ or charity seeking the Pleasure of Allah Subhanah; it is expected he will receive an unending reward from the Lord Most Merciful.

Allah says in the Glorious Quran, Chapter 2, Surah Baqarah, verse 261: The charity of those who expend their wealth in the Way of Allah may be likened to a grain of corn, which produces seven ears and each ear yields a hundred grains. Likewise Allah develops manifold the charity of anyone He pleases, for He is All-Embracing, All-Wise.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
