Menses during Hajj/Umrah and significance of black clothes

Mu'meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Burhan Bhai, Assalamualaikum;

If a woman is in her Haj pilgrimage or Umrah and during such time her period starts, what she should do?
Is there any restriction in wearing black colour clothes to mosque?

Regards,

Menses during Hajj/Umrah and significance of black clothes

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Q-1: If a woman is in her Haj pilgrimage or Umrah and during such time her period starts, what she should do?

Basically the woman on her pilgrimage can do everything a pilgrim does, except for performing the circumambulation or tawaaf of the Sacred House.

If the woman is already in her menses when she reaches the ‘meeqat’ and hopes that her menses period would be over before the start of Hajj, she should enter into the ‘ehram’ by making the intention of  Hajj Tamattu.   Upon reaching Makkah,  she will wait at her residence in the state of ‘ehram’ until her menses period is completed.  She should then cleanse and purify herself, perform the Umrah pilgrimage, remove the ‘ehram’ and on the 8th of Dhil Hajjah enter the ‘ehram’ again and then proceed with the pilgrims for the Pilgrimage of Hajj as normal.

But if the woman reaches the ‘meeqat’ and fears that her menses period might not complete before the start of Hajj,  she should enter the ‘ehram’ by making the intention for Hajj Qiraan.  Upon reaching Makkah,  she should wait until her periods are over.  If her periods are over before the 8th of Dhil-Hajjah which starts the Hajj Pilgrimage,  she should perform her Tawaaf and Sai, but not clip her hair and continue to stay in the state of ‘ehram’,  and proceed for the Hajj Pilgrimage on the 8th of Dhil Hajjah with the other pilgrims.

But if her periods are not over before the 8th of Dhil Hajjah,  she should proceed with the other pilgrims to Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifah, do the Qurbani, throw stones at the Jamaarat, stay the nights at Mina after Eid, etc.;  basically, do all the rites of Hajj except the Tawaaf until her periods are over.  After the end of her periods,  she should cleanse and purify herself and do the Tawaaf and the Sai, and her Hajj will be complete.

Q-2: Is there any restriction in wearing black colour clothes to mosque?
Nor has Islam declared that it is necessary to wear any particular color of clothes to go to a mosque,  nor has it forbidden the believers to wear any particular color of clothes when going to a mosque.  Thus if one wishes to wear black color clothes while going to a mosque,  there is absolutely no harm in it.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
