Sex with husband after menses are over but before taking compulsory ghuls
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Dear Sir, My question is about menses of women and sex with husband. Although I can understand indirectly from FAQ the answer to my question but I need a direct/clear anwser, I tried to find a direct answer from your FAQ but could not find it. We know that after menses every woman has to take ghusl to clean her up and only then she can pray salah and recite quran. My question is , after the menses when a woman is sure tha her menses are over, can she have sex with her husband before the ghusl or it is compulsary to have a ghusl and then have sex with husband. Please also guide me which things a woman can do after she feels that her menses are over but before taking compulsory ghuls. I am asking things to do during the period/time between a woman is sure that her periods are over but before taking compulsory ghuls to purify herself. This period could be very short from half an hour to a longer to a day. You can print question on your website but please do not mention my name/IDThank you

Answer:
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 222:
222 They ask thee (O Prophet (saws)) concerning women's courses (menstruation). Say: ‘They are a hurt and a pollution; so keep away from women in their courses and do not approach (have sexual intercourse with) them until they are clean. But when they have purified themselves (through ‘ghusl’) ye may approach them in any manner, time, or place ordained for you by Allah. For Allah loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean.
It is absolutely and categorically forbidden and prohibited for a believer to have sexual intercourse with his menstruating wife, unless and until the wife has first cleansed herself with a ‘ghusl’ or full bath of purification after her period of menstruation.
The washing of the private parts of the woman or the mere performance of the ‘wudu’ does not purify her from her impure state of menstruation; for the menstruating woman to be able to offer her prayers, or fast, or perform the ‘tawaaf’, or enjoy conjugal relations with her husband it is absolutely obligatory for her to first purify herself with a ‘ghusl’ or full bath of purification.
If in ignorance of the Laws or Boundaries of Shariah one has enjoyed conjugal relations with one’s menstruating wife before she has cleansed herself from her state of ceremonial or major impurity through a ‘ghusl’, one should turn unto their Lord in ‘taubah’ and seek sincere repentance for their transgression…..if they are indeed sincere in seeking repentance and amend their conduct thereafter, it is expected that they will find their Lord Forgiving and Merciful.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
