Confirmation of Hadith "Reviver of Islam"

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalam u Alaikum

I read the following hadith and want to confirm it.
Is this following hadith genuine ?
The messenger of Allah said: “At the advent of every hundred years, Allah will send a reviver/s of faith to this Ummah” (sunan abu dawood)

When the last reviver of faith left the world ?

-Ali Hayat

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

It is very unlikely that the Prophet saws will say something like a reviver will come from Allah swt every 100 years after he saws has warned us very explicitly that after him no prophet will come and all who claim such a position will be liars. Just imagine the confusion that this statement can cause. The ummah will not be able to decipher who is the reviver and who is the con-man.

Whilst we have the Glorious Quran in our midst, and the authentic a'hadiths do we need any reviver? These are enough for our guidance. We should be assured firmly in our belief in the Quran that our beloved Prophet saws was the last and final prophet who was sent with authority by our Lord Creator for the guidance of mankind. To imagine another reviver etc to come with authority from Allah swt will contradict the Quran and throw the Ummah into much controversy.
