Eyebrow plucking
Mu' meneen Brothers
and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa
Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be
upon all of you)
One of our
brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Assalamu alaikum dear brother, This is a
silly question, but one bothers me from time to time. I have read so many times
that the plucking of the eyebrows is haram and yet it is such a common practice
even among ladies whom Mashaala, I have a lot respect for and who are inspiring
Muslims. I realise this is a silly question, my brother, but I would really
appreciate your opinion on this matter. Thanking you.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, We praise
Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can
misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We
bear witness that there is no one (no idol,
no person, no grave, no
prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
The first thing we want to
assure you, is that please do not hesitate to ask any question on Islam to
anyone. There is no such thing as a silly question, or an unaskable question in
Islam. The deen of Islam is based on
absolute wisdom and knowledge, and in perfect harmony with the ‘fitrah’ or
nature of mankind. Thus, in the
knowledge of Truth, never ever feel ashamed or hesitant to ask a question in
Islam, no matter how insignificant it might seem. Allah knows the intention of the one who asks, and the one who
answers… and if their reasons are to understand and/or implement the deen of
Truth in their lives, there is a huge reward for both of them in the sight of
Allah.
Sahih
Al-Bukhari 7.815 Narrated by Abdullah
Allah has cursed
those women who practice tattooing and those who get themselves tattooed, and
those who remove their eyebrow hairs, and those who create a space between
their teeth artificially to look beautiful, and such women as change the
features created by Allah. Why then
should I not curse those whom the Prophet (saws) has cursed?
In light of the above hadith, it
is the unanimous decision of all the scholars and jurists that the plucking of
eyebrows is strictly forbidden for the believing woman in Islam.
Whatever written of Truth and
benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error
is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He
is the Only Source of Strength.
Your Brother in
Islam,
