As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 4.155 Narrated by Aisha

Allah`s Messenger (saws) came to my house while two girls were singing beside me the songs of Bu`ath (a story about the war between the two tribes of the Ansar, i.e. Khazraj and Aus, before Islam.) The Prophet (saws) reclined on the bed and turned his face to the other side. Abu Bakr came and scolded me and said protestingly, "Instrument of Satan in the presence of Allah`s Messenger (saws)?" The Prophet (saws) turned his face towards him and said, "Leave them." When Abu Bakr became inattentive, I waved the two girls to go away and they left. It was the day of `Id when negroes used to play with leather shields and spears. Either I requested Allah`s Messenger (saws) or he (saws) himself asked me whether I would like to see the display. I replied in the affirmative. Then he let me stand behind him and my cheek was touching his cheek and he (saws) was saying, "Carry on, O Bani Arfida (i.e. negroes)!" When I got tired, he (saws) asked me if that was enough. I replied in the affirmative and he (saws) told me to leave.’***************

Answer:

Singing and prophet saws with two non mehram girls

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 2.70 Narrated by Aisha

Allah's Messenger (saws) came to my house while two small girls were singing beside me the songs of Buath (a story about the war between the two tribes of the Ansar, the Khazraj and the Aus, before Islam). The Prophet (saws) lay down and turned his face to the other side. Then Abu Bakr came and spoke to me harshly saying, "Musical instruments of the Shaytaan near the Prophet (saws)?"  Allah's Messenger (saws) turned his face towards him and said, "Leave them." When Abu Bakr became inattentive, I signaled to those girls to go out and they left. It was the day of 'Id, and the black people were playing with shields and spears; so either I requested the Prophet (saws) or he asked me whether I would like to see the display. I replied in the affirmative. Then the Prophet (saws) made me stand behind him and my cheek was touching his cheek and he was saying, "Carry on! O Bani Arfida," till I got tired. The Prophet (saws) asked me, "Are you satisfied (Is that sufficient for you)?" I replied in the affirmative and he (saws) told me to leave.

The above narration is indeed considered authentic by the scholars of hadith.  The Messenger of Allah (saws) indeed allowed the girls to sing the songs of Buath in his blessed presence, and it is evident that there was no indecency in those songs of war.

The two small ansari girls were singing lawfully worded songs of the stories of the Day of Buath and playing the ‘daff’ or tambourine like musical instrument on the Day of Eid in the Presence of Allah’s Messenger, and the Prophet of Allah (saws) allowed such and other forms of lawful entertainment like (lawful) folk dancing or sport or on days of joyous occasions.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 2.103         Narrated by Urwa on the authority of Aisha

On the days of Mina, (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah) Abu Bakr came to her while two young girls were beating the tambourine and the Prophet (saws) was lying covered with his clothes. Abu Bakr scolded them and the Prophet (saws) uncovered his face and said to Abu Bakr, "Leave them, for these days are the days of 'Id and the days of Mina."

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 3154        Narrated by Aisha

I had a girl of the Ansar whom I gave in marriage, and Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "Why do you not sing, Aisha, for this clan of the Ansar like singing."

Singing in its essence is neither prohibited nor unlawful in Islam.  Provided none of the commands and tenets of Islam are violated, it is permissible in Islam for one to sing, especially on joyous occasions like marriage, Eid, etc. if one wishes to do so.

Now to answer your specific question:

can you please explain this hadith in details how prophet SAWS was wathing two gair mehram girls singing plz clear my misunderstandings.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 24 Surah Nur verse 31:

(O Prophet) enjoin the believing woman to restrain their gaze and guard their modesty, and not to display their adornment except that which is displayed of itself,  and to draw their veils over their bosoms,  and not to display their adornments except before their husbands,  their fathers, …….and also forbid them to stamp their feet on the ground lest their hidden ornaments should be displayed.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 3118        Narrated by Umar ibn al-Khattab

The Prophet (saws) said, "Whenever a man is alone with a (non-mehram)woman, the Shaytaan makes the third."

Being with a non-mehran girl/woman alone in a room is strictly forbidden, but here the Messenger of Allah (saws) was with his wife, and later Hadrat Abu Bakr also joined them and the other 2 girls were properly dressed in hijab.

There is no restriction in meeting with ones wife's friends and/or relatives in the presence of your wife if they are dressed appropriately.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chatper 68 Surah Qalam verses 3-4:

3        Nay verily for thee (O Mohamed (saws)) is a Reward unfailing:

4        And thou (O Prophet (saws) stands) on an exalted standard of character.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
