I know this somehow does not fall under this category but there wasn`t one in the list that defined it properly. Dreams/Telepathy or Something else?

what does Islam say about premonitions? i mean while u are awake getting/sensing things and then them coming true in one way or the other?

 

It all started when i was in college, was 17. i used to get flashes of images in my head - don`t know from where, but they would just pop-up and voices too - and then they would come true in one way or the other. it`s been the case for the past 10 years. i get flashes of images in my mind and then they somehow come true. if not in reality then whatever i`ve seen comes true on Television or Newspaper, but it does end up happening to someone. i mean many a times i`m relieved that whatever i saw didn`t happen to me or any of my immediate family members or my friends or people i love and care about, but other times i get scared because i don`t know who it might happen to. can you help me on this one. i mean i do ask Allah all the time for help and guidance regarding everything and everyone but i also do believe that help does not come by its own i have to make effort for it, so can you tell me what it is that i`ve been experiencing? i also at times feel people reaching out to me as in strong feelings of other people around me, people who are in another continent, people who don`t know me and haven`t met.

Dreams

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

 

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.144         Narrated by Abu Huraira

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "When the Day of Resurrection approaches, the dreams of a true believer will hardly fail to come true, and a dream of a believer is one of forty-six parts of Prophetism, and whatever belongs to Prothetism can never be false." Muhammad bin Sirin said, "It used to be said, 'There are three types of dreams:

        • The reflection of one's thoughts and experiences one has during wakefulness,

        • what is suggested by the Shaytaan to frighten the dreamer,

        • or glad tidings from Allah.

So, if someone has a dream which he dislikes, he should not tell it to others, but get up and offer a prayer.'"

 

In light of the above hadith, if one has a good dream then it is always from Allah Subhanah in the form of good tidings.  Whenever one experiences good dreams and good tidings, one must be grateful to Allah Subhanah and redouble his efforts in doing good righteous deeds to make himself more deserving of the honor which their Lord Most Merciful has bestowed upon them.

 

If one has an evil or frightening dream, it is, without an iota of a doubt, from the accursed Shaytaan.  One should immediately take refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytaan, disregard the dream and never mention the dream to anyone, for it will never be able to harm him.

 

Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 9.119 Narrated byAbu Huraira

I heard Allah's Messenger (saws) saying, "Nothing is left of the Prophetism except Al-Mubashshirat."  They asked, "What are Al-Mubashshirat?" He (saws) replied, "The true good dreams (that conveys glad tidings)."

 

Sister many amongst human beings experience these dreams and/or premonitions. The Holy Prophet saws had said that after him there will be no revelations and prophecies but dreams and premonitions of actual events to take place will be witnessed by some amongst the people.

 

Whenever you witness such dreams or events, you should remember Allah swt and seek His protection from any harm if it is a bad dream or thank Him gratefully if it is a good event. At no instance you should believe that you are special or have any sort of powers to do anything good or bad. These are some of the mysteries which none except Allah swt can explain comprehensively.

 

Jabir reported that the Prophet (saws) said: ‘If someone of you sees an unpleasant dream he should spit three times on his left side and seek Allah's refuge from the accursed Shaytaan, and change the side on which he was lying.'

A muslim should obviously believe in the ‘concept’ of dreams, but not necessarily in the ‘content’ of the dreams!  The belief of a muslim who sincerely fears Allah and the Last Day is based on the Guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah alone and nothing else. Neither can the contents of a dream be a basis for altering any of the beliefs endorsed by the Quran and the Sunnah, nor can the contents of any dream be a basis for changing any of the laws of Shariah.

 

Allah Says in His Holy Quran Chapter 35 Surah Fatir verse 2:

2        What Allah out of His Mercy doth bestow on mankind there is none can withhold: what He doth withhold there is none can grant apart from Him: and He is the Exalted in Power Full of Wisdom.

  

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzaab verse 3:

And put your trust in Allah Alone;  and enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

 

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 9 Surah Taubah verse 51:

Say: "Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us:  He is our Protector";  and on Allah let the believers put their trust.

 

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws),   one can be assured of never ever being misled;   but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

 

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
