Recite phrase in ruku sajdah once thrice.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Can you please tell if the following method of prayer is ‘technically’ correct with the bear minimums to render it acceptable and valid.

Following instructions have four exeptions and has all Fards and Wajibs for a complete Salat.

1) In Ruku and Sajdah instead of reciting "Subhaana Rabbiyal Azeem" and "Subhaana Rabbiyal A`la" three times, say it only once. But make sure do not leave Ruku poster untill the Meem (M) of Azeem has been said properly. Similarly do not leave the posture of Sajdah until Ala has been said completely. Just make sure to say these Tasbeehaat properly and do not rush.

2) In third and fourth Rakah of Fard Salah instead of reciting the whole Soorah Fatiha say, "Subhan Allah" three times and go to Ruku, . Make sure "Subhan Allah" has been recited three times properly, do not rush. This exeption is only for Fard.

In third rakah of Witr it`s a must to recite full Soorah Fatiha followed by at least three ayahs of Quran or a soorah (as we usually do in first and second rakah).

3) In last Qaidah (when we sit for Attahyyat) before Salam, after Attahyyat instead of full Durood and Dua just say, "Allah Humma Salle Ala Sayedena Mohammad Wa Ala Aalihi", then finish the Salat with Salam. Dua is not a must here.

4) In Witr, instead of full Dua-e-Qunoot just say "Rabbigh Fir Lee" one or three times.

Answer:

Recite phrase in ruku sajdah once thrice

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Q-1: In Ruku and Sajdah instead of reciting "Subhaana Rabbiyal Azeem" and "Subhaana Rabbiyal A`la" three times, say it only once. But make sure do not leave Ruku poster untill the Meem (M) of Azeem has been said properly. Similarly do not leave the posture of Sajdah until Ala has been said completely. Just make sure to say these Tasbeehaat properly and do not rush.

The Sunnah or practice of the Messenger of Allah (saws) was to declare the ‘tasbeeh’ an odd number of times during his ruku and sujood in prayer, the absolute minimum being at least three times.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘Pray as you have seen me pray.’

Related by Bukhari.

The majority of the scholars and jurists in Islam are of the opinion that if one declares the necessary ‘tasbeeh’ in their ruku and sujood positions in prayer only once, their prayer will be considered valid…..but it would obviously be best for the believers to follow the example of their Prophet (saws) and repeat the ‘tasbeeh’ at least three times.  And Allah Alone Knows Best.

Q-2A: In third and fourth Rakah of Fard Salah instead of reciting the whole Soorah Fatiha say, "Subhan Allah" three times and go to Ruku, . Make sure "Subhan Allah" has been recited three times properly, do not rush. This exeption is only for Fard.

The mere declaration of ‘Subhan Allah’ three times in a rakah cannot be made a substitute for the recitation of Surah al-Fatihah in one’s rakah, regardless of whether that prayer is obligatory or voluntary!

It is absolutely obligatory for the believers to recite the Surah al-Fatihah in every rakah of their prayer; and whoever does not recite the Surah Al-Fatihah in every rakah of their prayer, that prayer is invalid and unacceptable to Allah Subhanah.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.723         Narrated by Ubada bin As Samit

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "Whoever does not recite Al-Fatiha in his prayer, his prayer is invalid."

Q-2B: In third rakah of Witr it`s a must to recite full Soorah Fatiha followed by at least three ayahs of Quran or a soorah (as we usually do in first and second rakah).

The recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah in every single rakah of one’s prayer, regardless of whether the prayer is voluntary or obligatory, is an absolutely obligatory rite of prayer.  If one does not recite the Surah Al-Fatihah in the rakah, even if one were to recite the rest of the Glorious Quran in their prayer, that prayer would not be deemed valid in the Sight of the Lord.

The recitation of a few verses or another Surah of the Quran after the recitation of the Surah al-Fatihah in a rakah is not an obligatory rite of prayer.

If one recites the Surah Fatihah followed by a few verses of the Glorious Quran in their last rakah of ‘witr’ prayers, it would be in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (saws).

Q-3: In last Qaidah (when we sit for Attahyyat) before Salam, after Attahyyat instead of full Durood and Dua just say, "Allah Humma Salle Ala Sayedena Mohammad Wa Ala Aalihi", then finish the Salat with Salam. Dua is not a must here.

When one sits at the completion of one’s prayer to recite the ‘at-tahiyaat’, the declaration of the ‘shahaadah’ and the complete ‘durood’ as taught by the Messenger of Allah (saws) is an integral part of the prayer and should be recited.

The dua or supplication made after the recitation of the complete and full ‘durood’ before one declares the ‘tasleems’ to end one’s prayer is not obligatory, but a preferred practice and Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (saws).

Q-4: In Witr, instead of full Dua-e-Qunoot just say "Rabbigh Fir Lee" one or three times.

The ‘qunoot’ supplications at the end of one’s ‘witr’ prayers is not obligatory, and its performance or non-performance does not effect the validity of one’s prayer in the least.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,
