Meaning of name Haramain.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamalikum wa-rahamatulla wa-barakathahu

I have a 12 year old son whose name is Syed Harmaien. Please let me know the meaning of Harmaien. My elder son's name is Syed Saqlain, so my uncle has kept younger son's name as Harmaien. Also can i change the spelling to Haramayn.

Answer:

Meaning of name Haramain

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: I have a 12 year old son whose name is Syed Harmaien. Please let me know the meaning of Harmaien.

The term ‘Haramayn’ is derived from the Arabic root word ‘haram’ which, depending on the context in which it is used means ‘sacred’ or ‘holy’ or ‘prohibited’.

The term ‘Haramayn’ is generally associated to mean the ‘two Holy Masjids’ of Makkah and Madinah.

Your Question: …Also can i change the spelling to Haramayn.

Although the spellings ‘Harmaien’ or ‘Haramain’ are acceptable, in our humble opinion, the English spelling closest to the Arabic term would be ‘Haramayn’.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
