One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

SALAM ALEIKOUM

Is it allowed to pray Tahhiyat al masjid between salat ASR and MAGHRIB.

Answer:

 

Tahiyat ul masjid after asr

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

 

Al-Muwatta Hadith 9.60

Yahya related from Malik,  from Amir ibn Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr,  from Amr ibn Sulaymaz-Zuraqi,  from Abu Qatadaal-Ansari that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said, "Whenever you enter the masjid,  you should pray two rakahs before you sit down."

 

Al-Muwatta Hadith 15.48

Yahya related from Malik from Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Habban from al Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah (saws) forbade prayer after (the obligatory prayer of) ‘Asr’ until the sun had set, and prayer after (the obligatory prayer of) ‘Fajr’ until the sun had risen.

 

Your Question: Is it allowed to pray Tahhiyat al masjid between salat ASR and MAGHRIB.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) guided the believers to offer a two-rakah ‘tahiyat-ul-masjid’ prayer whenever they enter the dedicated Houses of Allah Subhanah or Masjids, and intend to sit down. 

 

But as quoted above the Messenger of Allah (saws) forbade the believers to offer any ‘nafl’ or ‘sunnah’ prayers after the obligatory ‘Asr’ and ‘Fajr’ prayers. 

 

Thus the absolute majority of the scholars and jurists are of the opinion that if one intends to enter a masjid after the obligatory ‘Asr’ prayers, it would be best to abstain from offering the ‘tahiyat ul-masjid’ before the declaration of the ‘magrib’ adhaan.
