Repeat iqama.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

As salam u alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatahu,

Brother I volunteer to be a imam in a mosque in our neighbourhood, and the other day i gave the call for the Adhan and iqamat and stood in the front to be the imam, but a person at the back insisted on recalling of the iqamat once again. Please let me know if there was really need to do so. wa salam

Answer:

Repeat Iqama

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The main reason and wisdom behind the declaration of the ‘adhaan’ aloud is to make aware to the believers that the time of offering the prayer has begun, and the wisdom behind the declaration of the ‘iqama’ is to signal to the believers present that the prayer is about to start and they should thus stand themselves in rows and make themselves available for congregational prayer.

If the ‘iqama’ was already declared at one assembly of prayer, there was absolutely no need for another to insist that it be declared again for the same prayer.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
