Plz clarify on dogs at home, angels of mercy, and more importtantly about imam mahdi as he says that mahdi means reformer but he is not an individual.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamualaikum brother Burhan,

May Allah reward you for the services u r doing 4 muslim umma.I read on ur web site that keeping dog at home and hanging human pictures and selling dogs and getting profit and angels of mercy will not enter any home where there are dogs or pictures are haraam.

Here is my elder brother arguing with me that ur statement contradicts quran and says any hadeeth which contradicts quran should be dis regarded.wat he is saying why do allah needs angels to bring mercy to any home as allah says `kun fa ya kun` be and it is. and another thing he quotes is we can very well recite bismillah on hunter dog and the hunted animal will be halal and so on and why cant v keep dog at home he himself subscribed me 2 ur website and now he himself is saying that brother burhan do not have complete knowledge of deen.

Plz clarify on dogs at home, angels of mercy, and more importtantly about imam mahdi as he says that mahdi means reformer but he is not an individual. he says there is no azab e khabar also.

Jazak allah khair

Answer:

Angels of mercy enter house

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Statement: ….he is saying why do allah needs angels to bring mercy to any home as allah says `kun fa ya kun` be and it is.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 4:

4        They ask thee what is lawful to them (as food): say: ‘Lawful unto you are (all) things good and pure: and what ye have taught your trained hunting animals (dogs, falcons, etc. to catch) in the manner directed to you by Allah; eat what they catch for you but pronounce the name of Allah over it: and fear Allah; for Allah is swift in taking account.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.494         Narrated by Adi bin Hatim

I asked the Prophet (saws), "I send off (for a game) my trained hunting dogs; what is your verdict concerning the game they hunt?"  He (saws) said, "If you send off your trained hunting dogs and mention the Name of Allah, then, if they catch some game, eat (thereof after due slaughter).”

Sahih Muslim Hadith 3814     Narrated by Abdullah Ibn Mughaffal

Allah's Messenger (saws) ordered the killing of dogs and then said: ‘What is the trouble with them (the people of Medina)? How dogs are nuisance to them (the citizens of Medina)?’ He (saws) permitted keeping of dogs for hunting and (the protection of) herds and of cultivated land.

In light of the above absolutely clear guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah, the believers are permitted to keep dogs for hunting, for protection of one’s herd of cattle, or cultivated lands, or property, etc.  But it is absolutely forbidden for a believer to keep dogs merely as pets or a statement of fashion, or to let or allow any dog to enter or live amongst them in their homes.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 4.448         Narrated by Abu Talha

I heard Allah's Messenger saying; "Angels (of Mercy) do not enter a house wherein there is a dog, or a picture of an animate creature.”

Your Statement (again): ….he is saying why do allah needs angels to bring mercy to any home as allah says `kun fa ya kun` be and it is.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 36 Surah Yaa Seen verse 82:

82      Verily when He intends a thing His (only) Command is "Be": and it is!

Indeed the Lord Most Majestic Most Supreme is Able and Capable of doing whatever He Wills and Pleases, and at His One Command of ‘BE’, that thing would come into existence!

But in His Perfect Wisdom and Absolute Knowledge, Allah Subhanah has appointed specific Angels to deliver His Revelations to His appointed Prophets, sends Angels to fulfill His Decrees of punishments for specific nations, sends Angels to help and support the believers in battles if He Wills, appoints Angels to take out the soul of men at death, appoints Angels to record the deeds of each individuals…etc.  Allah Subhanah could very well do anything He Wills and Pleases without the Angels (or anything else), but The All-Wise All-Knowing Lord has Decreed a system and a law for all things, and He utilizes and mobilizes His Forces how, when, and where He Pleases.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 50 Surah Qaaf verses 16-18:

16      It was We who created man and We know what dark suggestions his soul makes to him: for We are nearer to him than (his) jugular vein.

17      Behold two (Guardian Angels) appointed to learn (his doings) learn (and note them); one sitting on the right and one on the left.

18      Not a word does he utter but there is a sentinel (Angel) by him ready (to note it)!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 13 Surah Raad verse 11:

11      For each (such person) there are (Angels) in succession before and behind him: they guard him by the Command of Allah.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 79 Surah Naaziat verses 1-5:

1        By the (Angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence;

2        By those (Angels) who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed);

3        And by those (Angels) who glide along (on errands of Mercy)

4        Then press forward (those Angels) as in a race

5        Then arrange (the Angels) to do (the Commands of their Lord).

Beloved brother in Islam, the application and the usage of the Angels to fulfill some of the Commands of the Lord finds enough evidence in the Glorious Quran itself!

Your Question: ……and more importtantly about imam mahdi as he says that mahdi means reformer but he is not an individual.

Regarding all the advents of events of the past,  present,  and the future,  we believe with certainty  only in what is said by Allah Subhanah in the Glorious Quran,  and what is recorded in the authentic narrations of the Messenger of Allah (saws).

Although the Holy Quran is silent on this issue,  there are several authentic hadiths where the Messenger of Allah (saws) has prophesized the advent of a Righteous Ruler near the end of time,  who will unite the believers and rule the world according to the guidance of the Quran and Sunnah.   If we combine the hadiths,  they reveal that this righteous person will be from the ‘ahle-bayt’ or descendants of the Prophet (saws),  and his name will be similar to the Last Messenger of Allah (saws) and he will be known as Al-Mahdi or the Rightly Guided.   The scholars have opined that his name will be either Mohamed ibn Abdulla,  or Abdulla ibn Mohamed.    The era of the anti-Christ and Liar Ad-Dajjal,  and the descent of Prophet Isa (a.s.) from the heavens, will also take place during the time of Imam Mahdi.

There are several hadiths recorded regarding the era of Imam Mahdi,  as related from the Messenger of Allah (saws).  Here are some of them:

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4272  Narrated by AbuSa'id al-Khudri

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘The Mahdi will be of my stock, and will have a broad forehead a prominent nose. He will fill the earth with equity and justice as it was filled with oppression and tyranny, and he will rule for seven years.’

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 5455        Narrated by AbuSa'id al-Khudri

The Prophet (saws) said in the course of the story about the Mahdi, that a man would come to him and say, "Give me, give me, Mahdi," and he would pour into his garment as much as he was able to carry.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 6278        Narrated by Ja'far  as-Sadiq

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "Rejoice and rejoice again. My people are just like the rain, it not being known whether the last or the first of it is better; or it is like a garden from which a troop can be fed for a year, then another troop can be fed for a year, and perhaps the last troop which comes may be the broadest, deepest and finest. How can a people perish of which I am the first, the Mahdi the middle and the Messiah the last? But in the course of that there will be a crooked party which does not belong to me and to which I do not belong."

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4271  Narrated by Umm Salamah, Ummul Mu'minin

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘The Mahdi will be of my family, of the descendants of Fatimah.’

Amongst all mankind, only the Noble Prophets of Allah have the right to come and declare to mankind that they have been appointed Prophets by their Lord.  Imam Mahdi is not a Prophet, and thus neither he himself will know that he is the promised Massiah, nor will he ever declare that he has been appointed as the Mahdi by his Lord.

Only when Imam Mahdi is chosen the leader of the believers, and the believers in his reign will experience his truthfulness, righteousness, and piety will they realize that this person is indeed the promised Massiah or Mahdi as foretold by the Last and Final Messenger of Allah, Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws).  When all the signs foretold by Prophet Mohamed (saws) regarding his reign, his name, his looks, the trials of Ad-Dajjal and the advent of Prophet Isa (a.s.) from the heavens to the earth are fulfilled, the believers will recognize this righteous leader as the promised Massiah or Mahdi.

Beloved brother, the belief in the advent of Imam Mahdi before the end of time is indeed obligatory upon the believers, for the coming of this righteous leader has been foretold by none other than the Last and Final Messenger of Allah (saws); and to believe and obey every word of the Messenger of Allah (saws) is absolutely compulsory and obligatory upon the believers.

Although the recognition and acceptance of Imam Mahdi is not prescribed as an obligatory condition of ‘emaan’ or faith, the condition of the Muslim Ummah at the time of the advent of Imam Mahdi will be such that all the true believers will indeed accept him; and only the disbelievers and the hypocrites will reject him.

The current situation and position of the believers must be to strive to obey each and every command of Allah and His Messenger (saws),  and strive to make the word of Allah Supreme in the world.    Imam Mahdi will come exactly at the time Allah has Decreed, and the events will unfold exactly as prophesized by the Messenger of Allah (saws).  Allah has not made it our duty to search for the Mahdi; he will come when Allah has Decreed for him to come. On the Day of Judgment, Allah Subhanah will judge us according to our deeds; neither will Allah question us why we did not appoint a Mahdi, nor will He ask us why we did not wait for Mahdi’s coming!  Thus,  instead of waiting for Imam Mahdi to come and put things aright in this world; we must strive to do whatever we can to be better muslims,  and declare the Message of Allah to all those who care to listen to good caution.

And besides, Imam Mahdi is not a Prophet of Allah, but is a righteous slave of Allah Subhanah. He will not come to mankind and declare that he is the Mahdi like a Prophet of Allah comes to mankind and declares his appointment to Prophethood.    Imam Mahdi will be a political and religious leader of the believers, and from his actions of righteousness the believers will recognize him to be the Mahdi.

Your Statement: …..he says there is no azab e khabar also.

The punishment of the grave is amongst the knowledge of the ‘unseen’, and the exact and precise knowledge of everything of the ‘unseen’ is with none except Allah Subhanah, the Lord of the Worlds.  And for every matter of the ‘unseen’ the believers who sincerely believe in Allah and the Last Day must turn only to what the Lord has Willed to make known about it in His Glorious Quran, or what He Willed to make known through Prophet Mohamed (saws) who in turn made it known to the believers.

There are several and explicit references to the punishment of the Hereafter all over the Quran.  Although most of the references of the punishment of the graves are declared by the Messenger of Allah (saws) in the authentic narrations, there are a few references in the Quran regarding the severe punishment of the evil-doers in the period between their death and the Day of Resurrection.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 40 Surah Mumin verses 45-46:

45      At last, Allah saved the believer from all those evil plots that the people devised against him, and the companions of Pharaoh themselves were encompassed by the horrible scourge.

46      It is the Fire of Hell before which they are presented morning and evening.  And when the Hour of Resurrection comes, it will be commanded: “Admit the People of Pharaoh to the severest torment.”

In the above Aayah of Surah Mumin it is absolutely clear that the Fire of Hell that is presented to the People of Pharaoh morning and evening is from amongst the punishment between their death and the Day of Resurrection.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 8 Surah Anfaal verses 49-51:

49      Lo! the hypocrites say and those in whose hearts is a disease: "these people--their religion has misled them."  But if any trust in Allah, behold! Allah is Exalted in Might, Wise.

50      If thou couldst (only) see when the Angels take the souls of the unbelievers (at death) (how) they smite their faces and their backs (saying): "Taste the penalty of the blazing fire.

51      because of (the deeds) which your (own) hands sent forth: for Allah is never unjust to His servants:

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 47 Surah Muhammad verses 25-28:

25     Those who turn back as apostates after Guidance was clearly shown to them, the Shaytaan has instigated them and buoyed them up with false hopes.

26      This because they said to those who hate what Allah has Revealed "We will obey you in part of (this) matter"; but Allah knows their (inner) secrets.

27      But how (will it be) when the Angels take their souls at death, and smite their faces and their backs?

28      This because they followed that which called forth the Wrath of Allah, and they hated Allah's good pleasure; so He made their deeds of no effect.

In the above Aayahs of Surah Anfaal and Surah Muhammad, it is clearly declared that the Angels of Allah punish the disbelievers immediately after taking their souls at their times of death.  This is again proof that the punishment between one’s death and the Day of Resurrection warned by the Messenger of Allah (saws) is absolutely in accordance with the guidance of the Glorious Quran.

Regarding when the body reaches the grave:

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.521         Narrated by Anas bin Malik

Allah's Apostle said, "When carried to his grave, a dead person is followed by three, two of which return (after his burial) and one remains with him: his relative, his property, and his deeds follow him; relatives and his property go back while his deeds remain with him."

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 1627        Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

The Prophet (saws) said, "The angels are present with one who dies,  and if a believer dies,  they say,  'Come out,  good soul,  which was in the good body;  come out praiseworthy and be happy with rest and provision and a Lord Who is not angry.'   That continues to be said to it till it comes out.   It is then taken up to Heaven  and the door is opened for it.  The angels are asked who this is and reply that he is so and so, whereupon these words are spoken:  'Welcome, good soul,  which was in the good body; enter praiseworthy and be happy with rest and provision  and a Lord Who is not angry.'   That continues to be said to it till it comes to the Heaven where Allah is.   But when it is a disbeliever it is said,  'Come  out, wicked soul, which was in the wicked body;  come out blameworthy and be grieved by a boiling liquid, one dark and intensely cold,  and other kinds of its type.'   That continues to be said to it till it comes out.  It is then taken up to Heaven, and the door is asked to be opened for it.   The question will be asked who this is and the reply given that it is so and so, whereupon these words are spoken:  'There is no welcome for the wicked soul which was in the wicked body;  go back blameworthy,  for the gates of Heaven will not be opened for you.'   It will then be sent away from Heaven and come to the grave."

Regarding the invocation of the Prophet.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.387         Narrated by Aisha

The Prophet (saws) said,  "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the affliction of the Fire,  and the punishment in the Fire, and affliction of the grave,  and the affliction of wealth,  and the affliction of poverty,  and  the affliction of Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal."

Regarding the grave:

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 132         Narrated by Uthman ibn Affan

The Prophet (saws) said: “Verily the grave is the first step in the stages of the Hereafter. If one finds salvation at this stage,   the succeeding stages become easy for him.  And if he does not find salvation at this stage,  what follows this stage is very hard upon him.  I have never seen a site more horrible than that of the grave.”

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 5352 (part)         Narrated by Abu Sa'id

The Prophet (saws) said:  "The grave is one of the gardens of Paradise, or one of the pits of Hell."

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 5352        Narrated by Abu Sa'id

The Prophet (saws) said: “A day does not come to the grave without its saying, 'I am the house of exile, I am the house of solitude, I am the house of dust, I am the house of worms.' When a believer dies the grave says to him,  ‘Welcome and greeting;  you are indeed the dearest to me of those who walk upon me.   I have been given charge of you today.    You have come to me,  and you will see how I shall treat you (with dignity and honor).’   It will then expand for him as far as the eye can see and a door to Paradise will be opened for him.   But when the disbeliever is buried the grave says to him,  `No welcome and no greeting to you.    You are the most hateful to me of those who walk upon me. I have been given charge of you today.   You have come to me,  and you will see how I shall treat you.' Seventy dragons will be put in charge of him,  of such a nature,  that if one of them were to breathe on the earth,  it would produce no crops as long as the world lasted, and they will bite and scratch him till he is brought to the Day of  Reckoning."

Regarding the punishment of the grave.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 6859 (part)      Narrated by Zayd ibn Thabit

The Prophet (saws) said:  “The people who invoke others with Allah, are passing through the ordeal in the graves.  If it were not for the fact that you would stop burying your dead  in the graves, I  would have certainly made you hear the sound of the torment in the graves,  which I hear.”

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4735  Narrated by Al-Bara' ibn Azib

The Prophet (saws) said:  “When a believer is buried in the grave two angels will come to him (Munkar and Nakir,  both have dark faces and blue eyes),  make him sit up,  and ask :  ‘Who is your Lord?’  He will reply:  ‘My Lord is Allah.’   They will ask him:  ‘What is your religion?’   He will reply:  ‘My religion is Islam.’  They will ask him:  ‘What is your opinion about the man who was sent on a mission among you?’  He will reply:  ‘He is the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).’   They will ask: ‘ Who made you aware of this?’   He will reply:  ‘I read Allah's Book, believed in it, and considered it true.’  Then a crier will call from Heaven:  ‘My servant has spoken the truth.    So spread a bed for him from Paradise,  clothe him from Paradise,  and open a door for him into Paradise.’  Then  some of its air and perfume will come to him, and a space will be made for him as far as the eye can see.   At the death of the unbeliever   his soul will be restored to his body in the grave.  Then two angels will come to him. They will make him sit up and ask him:  ‘Who is your Lord?’  He will reply:  ‘Alas, alas! I do not know.’   They will ask him:  ‘What is your religion?’   He will reply:  ‘Alas, alas! I do not know.’   They will ask:  ‘Who was the man who was sent on a mission among you?’    He will reply:  ‘Alas, alas! I do not know.’   Then a crier will call from Heaven: ‘He has lied,  so spread a bed for him from Hell,  clothe him from Hell,  and open for him a door into Hell. Then some of its heat and burning hot  wind will come to him,  and his grave will be compressed, such that his ribs will be crushed together.   An angel who is blind and dumb will then be placed in charge of him, having a sledge-hammer, such that,  if a mountain were struck with it, it would become dust.  He will give him a blow with it,  which will be heard by everything between the east and the west except by men and jinn, and he will become dust.  Then his soul  will be restored to him (again).

Fiqh-us-Sunnah Fiqh 1.19b

Bukhari and Muslim report from Ibn Abbas that the Prophet (saws)  passed by two graves and said, "Both of them are being tortured in their graves, and they are not being tortured for a major sin.   This one used not to save himself from being soiled with his urine, and the other used to slander  (among the people to rouse hostilities, e.g., one goes to a person and tells him that so-and-so says about him such-and-such evil things).”

The afflictions of the grave is something which is proven beyond any doubt in the Quran and the Sunnah….and to completely deny a belief which is clearly endorsed by Allah and His Messenger (saws) would be a manifestation of disbelief!

Your Statement:…..now he himself is saying that brother burhan do not have complete knowledge of deen.

Beloved brother, we might disagree with many of the opinions of your elder brother, but absolutely agree with his opinion that I ‘do not have complete knowledge of the deen’……Allah is our witness brother, we are but humble kindergarten students in the ocean of knowledge called ‘Al-Islam’ and constantly beseech our Lord Most Merciful to increase us in knowledge and in faith.

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws),   one can be assured of never ever being misled;   but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
