I would simply like to ask whether the "Bohri" sect of followers considered Muslims?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear brother, I would simply like to ask whether the "Bohri" sect of followers considered Muslims? and whether it is permissable to marry a follower of the Bohri sect.

Answer:

Are bohri muslims

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 2526  Narrated by Anas ibn Malik

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘Three things are the roots of faith:

  1. to refrain from (killing) a person who utters, "There is no god but Allah"
  2. and not to declare a believer an unbeliever whatever sin he commits,
  3. and not to excommunicate him from Islam for his any actions.’

Your Question: I would simply like to ask whether the "Bohri" sect of followers considered Muslims?

Islam guides that whoever declares the testimony of faith that there is no god except Allah Alone and that Mohamed (saws) is the Last and Final Messenger of Allah, regardless of whatever he does, he will be regarded as a legal muslim in the sight of Shariah, and all the rights that are due to a believer will be accorded to him in full.

Although the Bohra sect are completely involved in the many manifestation of ‘shirk’ whereby they invoke the dead, invoke and worship the tombs of the deceased pious slaves of Allah, and bow down in ‘sajdah’ or prostration to their holy priest, etc.; they declare belief in the Oneness of Allah and the appointment of Prophet Mohamed (saws) as the Last and Final Messenger of Allah; thus in the sight of Shariah they will be regarded as ‘legal’ muslims and all the rights that are due to a muslim will be accorded to them in full.

It is only in the Court of Allah Subhanah where it will be made known whether one who declared belief verbally in the world was indeed a true muslim in the Sight of Allah or not.

Your Question: and whether it is permissable to marry a follower of the Bohri sect.

Because of their declaration of faith, the Bohra are ‘legally’ muslims, it is absolutely permissible for a believer to marry amongst them; and the marriage will be considered absolutely legal and valid in the Sight of Shariah.

But whether it is prudent and wise to marry amongst a people who so daringly commit manifest ‘shirk’ and associate partners with Allah Subhanah is a matter the individual must decide with extreme caution.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
