One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

MY HUSBAND IS HAVING AN AFFAIR AND BESIDES ME KNOWING THAT HE GOES TO MEET HER EVERY NIGHT I AM STILL LIVING WITH HIM, BUT NOW HE ADMITTS THAT I AN NO LONGER GOOD ENOUGH FOR HIM, I WANT TO LEAVE WOULD I BE DOING WRONG?

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Leave husband having affair

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Dear and beloved sister in Islam, if you are absolutely convinced (and not in a doubt) that your husband is having an illicit affair, it would be best to confront him and talk to him.  If you see that he realizes the gravity of his error and sin, and sincerely seeks your forgiveness and the forgiveness of Allah Subhanah for his heinous sin; and you are convinced that he would never repeat the same in the future, and you can bring yourself to forgive him; then it would be prudent to forgive him, and give him a chance to repent and amend his conduct, and thus save your marriage.

But if after your confrontation, you are convinced that he is non-repentant for his heinous and grave sin, and is not at all inclined towards seeking your forgiveness and the forgiveness of his Lord and Creator; then you would be well within your rights to initiate a divorce proceedings against such an evil person; and there will be absolutely no sin upon you.  He will bear the full burden of the sin upon himself in the Presence of the Majestic Lord on the Inevitable Day of Judgment.

My dear and beloved sister in Islam, once again we remind you as your brothers and well-wishers in Islam that you should act only upon absolute conviction and not on heresay or doubt; for the Shaytaan loves nothing better than breaking up two people bound in the sacred relationship of marriage.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
