Acts of Adopted son

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

AAssalam alykum, my question is based on a Hadith of Sahih Muslim: Book of Bequest, Hadith no. 4005 Narraeted Abu Hurraira, that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, when man dies his acts come to an end but three, 1...2...3: In third one he says pious son who prays for the deceased, my question, if son is adopted then will his acts and prayer would give benefit or Sawaab after the death of his father?'

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Wa Alaykum as Salam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Brother there is no concept of adoption in Islam. An adopted person will not inherit the adopter or vice versa nor will they be mehram to each other. However, one is at liberty to pray for anyone he wishes and InshaAllah his prayers will be answered by The Lord of all the Worlds if He swt wishes.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
