The six Kalimahs

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

dear brother

assalamu alaikum

kindly clarify: 1) We are taught that Kalima tayyib is " La Illaha Illalah Mohammadur Rasool Allah"

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

The six Kalimahs

Yes, this is the actual Kalima Tayyiba as taught to the believers by the Messenger of Allah (saws).

The other Kalimas taught to us are as follows

Second Kalima- Kalima Shahadat

(Ashadu Allah Illaha Illal Lahu Wahdahu la Sharikalahu wa Ashadu Ana Mohammadan Abduhu Wa Rasooluhu)

This is nothing more than an extention of the original Kalima Tayyiba,  whereby one states that ‘we bear evidence that there is no god except Allah Alone,  and we bears witness that Mohamed is the Messenger of Allah (saws).’

Third kalima- kalima Tamjeed

Subhan Allahi Wal Hamdu Lillahi Wa La Illaha Illal Lahu Walahu Akbar Wala Hawla Wala Kuwata Illa Billahil Aliyul Azeem

This is  ‘dhikr’ or phrases of glorification of Allah as taught by the Messenger of Allah (saws) to the believers.   This cannot be considered part of the Kalima Tayyiba,  but is rather a ‘dhikr’ or glorification for the remembrance of Allah Subhanah.

Fourth Kalima - Kalima Tauheed

La Illaha Illal Lahu Wah dahu La Sharikalahu Lahul Mulku Wa Lahul hamdu Yuhyi Vayumitu Vahuva hayul La yalutu Abadab Abada. Zul Jalali val Ikram. Biyadil Khair Vahuva Ala Kuli Shaiyan Kadeer.

This is  also ‘dhikr’ or phrases of glorification of Allah as taught by the Messenger of Allah (saws) to the believers.   This cannot be considered part of the Kalima Tayyiba,  but is rather a ‘dhikr’ or glorification for the remembrance of Allah Subhanah.

Fifth Kalima- Astagfaar

The above is a dua or supplication to Allah Subhanah for forgiveness of our sins or a dua for ‘astagfaar’.   It is not part of the Kalima Tayyiba.

Sixth Kalima- Radee Kufar

The above is a supplication or dua to Allah Subhanah whereby one asks for Allah’s refuge from the spiritual diseases of ‘shirk’,  ‘kufr’, etc.   It is a dua which one should pray as often as one can; and is not part of the Kalima Tayyiba.

There are litereally hundreds if not thousands of such duas,  or dhikrs,  or phrases of remembrance,  or duas for astagfaar, etc.  which are derived from the Glorious Quran or from the teachings of the Last Messenger of Allah (saws);  thus we should not limit these beautiful invocations to Allah Subhanah to a limited number of six!    A believer should pray these duas as often as possible,  because the Prophet of Allah (saws) is reported to have said, “The supplication (to Allah),  that indeed is worship!”.  These are duas or supplications,  and do not form part of the Kalima Tayyiba.

The Kalima Tayyiba is only one:  Laa Ilaaha Illallaah,  Mohamed ar Rasool Allah.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
