Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

if u are the right sect , then the sunnis and all are false??

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

ANSWER:

Is the Sunni sect false?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and who-ever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 23 Surah Mu’minoon verse 52-54: And you all belong to one and the same ummah,  and I(Allah) am your Lord; so fear Me Alone!  Yet afterwards the people divided themselves into different sects, and each sect rejoicing in what it has.  Well, leave them deeply involved in their heedlessness up to an appointed time.

Allah declares that this Ummah of Islam is One Ummah, and Allah Alone is our Lord, thus He Alone deserves to be feared, invoked and worshipped.    Islam is absolutely against the breaking up of this Ummah into sects, and Allah describes His Wrath and Anger of those who break up their deen into sects in various places in the Holy Quran.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 30 Surah Rum aayat 31-32: "This (Islam) is the right and true faith, but most people do not know. (Be steadfast on this) turning wholly and sincerely towards Allah Alone, and fear Him, and establish the Salat, and do not be like the mushriks, who have set up their separate creeds and divided themselves into sects, each sect rejoicing in what it has."

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 42 Surah Ash-Shura aayat 13: "He has appointed for you the same Way of Life, which He had ordained for Noah, and which (O Mohamed (saws)) We have now revealed to you, and which We had already enjoined on Abraham and Moses and Jesus, stressing this: " Establish this way and be not divided in it"."

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 45 Surah Al-Jathiyah aayat 17: "Then they differed amongst themselves after the knowledge (of Islam) had come to them, only because they wanted to wrong one another. Your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning the matters in which they have been differing."

It has been reported in an authentic tradition that Allah's Messenger (saws) said: “There will befall my Ummah exactly all those evils which befell the people of Israel (Jews and Christians), so much so that if there was one amongst them who openly committed fornication with his mother, there will be amongst my Ummah one, who will do the same.  And if the people of Israel were fragmented into seventy-two sects, my Ummah will be fragmented into seventy-three sects.   All of them will be in Hell Fire except one sect.”   The noble Companions asked: “O Allah's Messenger (saws), which one is that?”    Whereupon he (saws) said: “It is one to which I and my companions belong.”

Allah has commanded us in the Holy Quran to follow the Messenger of Allah (saws).   We are commanded not to break up our deen into sects.   Whoever does so, will be severely accountable to Allah on the Day of Judgment, and according to the above authentic narration of the Messenger of Allah (saws), he said that all the sects will be in Hell Fire, except the one which is followed by him (saws) and his noble companions.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzab verse 21: There is indeed the best model for you to follow, in the Messenger of Allah, for every such person looks forward to Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisa verse 79-80: We have sent you (O Mohamed) as a Messenger to mankind, and Allah’s witness suffices for this.   Whoever obeys the Messenger, in fact obeys Allah, and whoever turns away from him, he will be accountable for his deeds.  Anyhow, we have not sent you (O Mohamed) to be a guardian over them.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imran verse 31-32: Prophet, tell the people, “If you sincerely love Allah, follow me. Then Allah will love you and forgive you your sins, for He is All Forgiving, All Merciful.”  Also say to them, “Obey Allah and His Messenger.”  And if, in spite of this, they do not accept your invitation, warn them that Allah does not love those, who refuse to obey Him and His Messenger.

We are thus commanded by Allah, to obey only Allah and His Messenger (saws) in the Holy Quran.  Whoever believes and follows these two sources of knowledge and guidance, and does good deeds, Allah has promised them His Mercy.   Allah will not forgive somebody, simply because he belongs to this sect or that sect, or follows this leader or that holy man!  The criteria for receiving Allah’s Mercy is detailed very explicitly in the Holy Quran.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 103 Surah Asr verses 1-3: By the Time!  Man is surely in great loss, except those who believed and did good works, and exhorted one another to the Truth, and exhorted one another to patience.

Coming to your direct questions,  ‘if your sect is right”, brother, Allah is my witness, we do not belong to any sect nor do we have any agenda, except the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (saws).  We are muslims, as Allah has called us in the Quran. We are of the same deen that our beloved Prophet (saws) and his companions belonged to.  If the Prophet (saws) was a Sunni, we are Sunnis.  If the Prophet (saws) was a Shia, we are Shias.   If the Prophet (saws) was a Ismaili, we are Ismaelis.  If the Prophet (saws) was a Bohra, we are Bohras.   But nobody, who has an iota of knowledge from the Quran, would dare to call Mohamed (saws) a Shia, Sunni, Ismaeli, Bohra, or whatever other name invented by Man!  Allah has honored us and called us muslims in the Quran, and that is the name we should be recognized by.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah Hajj verse 78: Exert your utmost for the cause of Allah, as one should.   He has chosen you for His service and has not laid on you any hardship in your deen.   Therefore, be steadfast in the religion of your father, Abraham.   Allah had called you ‘Muslims” before this, and has called you (by the same name) in this Quran also, so that the Messenger may be a witness in regard to you, and you may be witnesses in regard to the rest of mankind.   Therefore, establish the ‘salaat’ and pay the ‘zakaat’, and hold fast to Allah.   He is your ‘Maula’:  what an excellent ‘Maula’ and what an excellent Helper!

And regarding your questions,  ‘are the sunnis and all false’, again, brother, the same answer applies.   Allah will not judge one because he/she is a sunni or a shia, but rather if he/she is a true ‘Muslim’ and believes and follows Allah and His Messenger (saws) or not.

There are many amongst the people who claim to be sunnis, who worship and invoke graves, etc.  and are thus committing the heinous crime of ‘shirk’!  And there are many amongst the sunnis, who worship Allah Alone, and associate no partner with Him at all.  Whether one is a Shia, Sunni, Ismaeli, Bohri, or anybody, who worships and invokes Allah Alone, without associating any partner with Him, believes and follows Allah’s Commandments, believes and follows the Messenger of Allah (saws), and is a doer of good deeds, Allah has promised to take him into His Mercy on the Day of Judgement.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah An-Nisa verse 122: The promise of Allah is true, and who can be truer in his word than Allah?

And Allah Alone Knows Best, and He is the Only Source of Strength.

May Allah guide you and us to read and understand the simple and plain words of the Glorious Quran.   May Allah increase our knowledge from the Holy Quran.   May Allah guide us to the Siraat al Mustaqeem.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
